Week 2 journal entry

Robert Bierstedt  argued that social science adheres to the same principles as natural sciences. We went over 7 different principles in class; Relativism, Objectivity, Parsimony, Empiricism, Ethical neutrality, Determinism, and Skepticism. They all have different meanings and they all do relate to cybersecurity.

Relativism can be understood to mean that all things are related. In a computer systems perspective, changes in one system lead to changes in another.

Objectivity refers to the way that scientists or researchers study topics in a value free manner.

Parsimony means that  scientists should keep their levels of explanation as simple as possible.

Empiricism basically means that you can’t/ shouldn’t rely on hunches or opinions to frame our understanding of cyberspace or cybersecurity.

Ethical neutrality refers to the fact that you must adhere to ethical standards when and while conducting research.

Determinism means that behavior is caused, determined, or influenced by preceding events.

Skepticism is the principle that all claims should be question and examined rather than accepted at face value.
