Reflection Instructions

For this assignment, please look back at your Pre-Semester Reflection and identify changes that you have made between the start of the semester, and now.

Answer each question using complete sentences and good spelling and grammar. Be thorough and thoughtful in your analysis! This will be going up on your e-Portfolio. Make sure to add it once it has been graded. You can make edits to it after it has been graded for your e-Portfolio submission.

Reflect on the following:

Study Habits

  • What classes are you doing well in, and why?

As I reflect on this semester in psychology, I can confidently say that I am progressing well, both in my understanding of the material and in applying that knowledge to real-life situations. I’ve been able to grasp complex psychological concepts more effectively than I anticipated, and this has contributed to a deeper appreciation of the field overall.

  • What classes did you identify as needing assistance in?

I did need assistance, I needed to change my way of thinking about my health professions class, this class is a good class and easy to understand with a great professor. I haven’t been using my time wisely putting assignments to the side without thinking about them later on which caused me to fall behind in the class.

  • What changes have you made (i.e. amount of time, location, campus resources, study strategies, etc…)? I changed my approach to the work and instead of putting it off to the side I do it right then and there while the work is fresh on my mind.

Transition to College

  • What expectations did you have coming to college?

Coming to college, I had a mix of expectations both academic and personal that shaped my outlook as I embarked on this new chapter. One of my main expectations was that college would challenge me intellectually, pushing me to think critically and engage with complex ideas.

  • Have those expectations come to fruition, or not? Yes those expectations came to fruition
  • How? All my classes challenged me and pushed me to think about the material in much deeper thought than the initial that was created throughout the lesson.
  • In what way is your college experience different from what you expected? The amount of free time on my hands created an experience of me not wanting to stay in my dorm and only really using it to go to sleep.
  • What has surprised you about your experiences so far this semester? What has surprised me is how much the professors are willing to help the students and how much they understand that we’re upcoming adults.
  • If you live on campus: What has been your toughest challenge with moving away to college? Easiest challenge to overcome?

My toughest challenge was living in a smaller space that I don’t like being in the room as long as I normally would at home. My easiest challenge to overcome would be living on my own because I learned how to be independent prior to coming here.

  • OR  If you commute to class: What is the toughest challenge with commuting to campus? Easiest challenge to overcome?

Major

  • Name something you have learned about your intended major that you did not know at the beginning of the semester.

I did not know there wasn’t a major for occupational therapy and that you had to enter as a recreational therapy major, the program leads you to the right track to become an Occupational Therapist

  • Have your feelings changed about your intended major? List some thoughts you are having.

Yes, my thoughts exercise science, medicine, and psychology

  • Is there another subject (major or minor) that you are interested in learning more about?

Yes I have had thoughts of becoming a psychology major because I enjoy to be able to read people and why people certain things they do, I find those traits about people important and interesting

Connecting to Campus

  • Name one problem or challenge you have encountered this semester, and which resource(s) at ODU you have/can utilize to assist with this situation.

Time management, the resources I have now used was the lounge in the Owens Residence, previously, my room is not a space I can do my work with. The scenery I have the lounge is much more of a relaxing space.

  • Is there a friend, roommate, professor, advisor, or group in the ODU community who has helped you so far this semester? If so, how did they help you?

Yes, my friend helped me with understanding the major process because we have the same intended major and she helped me understand the process it takes to complete the course.

  • Have you attended an interest meeting for a club? Why did you decide to get involved or not get involved? I have not decided to participated in involvement of any clubs, I wanted to mentally prepare myself and fully grasp the concept of college.
