In order to optimize labor and accessibility to the public, companies have incorporated specialized machinery and internet connected technologies into the workplace. However, with the incorporation of internet connected devices into big businesses, comes the common risks when using the internet.
Misuse in the Workplace
It is important to have regulations on how company staff utilizes their systems over the company’s network. Failure to lockdown unnecessary actions on company systems can give lead to faults that put the entire network at risk. Not auditing what actions are deemed appropriate on company systems can give misinformed staff the opportunity to surf the internet freely. They now run the risk of possibly catching malware through malicious sites or spam emails.
Technical Difficulties
Another cause of workplace deviance in regards to internet technology, is the misuse of devices in the workplace. When incorporating new devices into the workplace or revamping existing software, the staff using the devices throughout the day must be trained to properly operate them. Failure to use devices correctly can create downtime to resolve the issue. It is best to train staff prior to operation to prevent time from being wasted trying to correct a mistake.
Cyber Attacks
Workplace disruptions are not always the cause of an onsite employee but can be the cause of an outside intruder that has breached the system. When unsupervised staff utilize devices connected to the internet or risks to the network go unchecked, the company runs the risk of a cyber attack. Responses to cyber attacks usually require downtime for the company to get back into working order. Cyber attacks can lead to loss of sensitive information and mistrust to their clients.
While the addition of internet technology into the workplace has improved productivity and public outreach, it has also made getting distracted on the job much easier and the consequences of system misuse much more critical.
