Community Based Experience

In this photo, I am at ODU Virginia Beach Higher Education Center (home of ODU’s Nursing School) with a few of our learning community students. During this event, we took a tour of nursing simulation labs, planted trees, and spent time with current students and faculty from the School of Nursing. This volunteer experience was essential as the trees we planted help provide shade, prevent soil erosion, and clean the air we breathe, plus green spaces help to reduce stress – all of which help us build a more sustainable campus.

This video is a short clip of me on an HIV/AIDS walk around Hampton Roads. In this walk, we are advocating for people to get educated on HIV/AIDS and reducing the stigma. We are also encouraging people to get tested to know their status in order to reduce the spread of the virus. Lastly, we are getting our organization (Minority AIDS Support Program) into the community alongside other organizations focused on preventing and reducing the spread of HIV.
