Reflection

In the Social Marketing Behavior Analysis Practice Lab, I was able to meet competencies from the MPH Program and the Health Behavior and Health Promotion track. The few competencies were: 1) Perform effectively on interprofessional teams, 2) Apply systems thinking tools to a public health issue and 3)Assess or analyze public health problems using a multi-level approach grounded in a social behavioral framework. During this assignment, I was able to build on my collaboration skills while applying my public health knowledge to a specific health problem. By working in groups, we were able to analyze the target audience and its competition. We used literature and textbooks to determine some real or theoretical benefits and barriers of a public health problem while looking at the issue through a real-world lens. We looked at the issue of teen drug abuse from the individual to the societal level. This assignment helped me to look at any situation entirely and be able to communicate this effectively.

In the Risk Management Practice Lab, I was able to 1) Assess population needs, assets, and capacities that affect communities’ health and 2) Construct effective approaches to communicate or disseminate health promotion content to relevant audiences. This lab gave me the opportunity to look at a different problem than I ever expected. Looking at how compounds that are commonly used can affect our health and the daily living of the population. Then looking at the ways that it impacts us individually in different moderations, it can be harmful, so I had to assess the population’s needs and opportunities to fix it. This lab gave me the opportunity to make suggestions and communicate different ways to keep the population safe.
