Workplace deviance is defined as a deliberate or malicious attempt to sabotage a company or organization by causing problems within it. This mal intent can be seen in the cyber area as many people have access to different departments withing their scope. It can also occur for many different reasons. The main one that would come to my mind would be a disgruntled employee or previous employee who has not had their access revoked from the systems by the coorelating IT departments. Credentials should be taken or flagged once the company has a reason to removed the person. If access is still maintained, then this worker has the ability to cause harm. Administrations/departments within an organization should be communicating with one another to establish a standard operating procedure to limit or remove this vulnerability.
Another occurance of workplace deviance could be that employees are given too much access or power within their company. People could abuse their status and work for themselves, or the opposite, not know how to use the system in which they are working on. When IT is setting up their employees profiles and status, they should be know which files, drives, hardware, and software that each employee can utilize and which that are hidden from them. This type of deviance can be managed with simple fixes and is less intrusive than someone who may be disgruntled and looking to purposfully cause mayhem in an organization.
Another style of workplace deviance is bribery. While this instance is miniscule compared to the others, it can happen. If other companies are competing or want to conduct any sabotage or espionage, then bribing a worker for files or information is an easy way in. This can be deterred with loyalty and security such as non-remote logins and key logs, or ensuring employees dont bring personal hardware into their work enviroment. Also noticing things like individuals attitudes changing or spending habits over their salary levels.
