Additional Technology over Training

In today’s cyber world, There are many unknowns due to everything constantly changing. In fact, by the time I graduate most of what I have learned will be outdated. With that being said, with a limited budget, I would divide it, additional technology 70% and training 30%.

Additional Technology

If I had a limited budget and had to divide it into two, the percentage I would put towards additional technology would be 70. Additional technology would include things like,  computer systems, Productivity tools, Networking devices, Financial accounting systems, etc. (Indeed Editorial Team) and keeping these things up to date. These things are very important for companies as well as keeping them updated. Keeping IT systems up to date seems costly in both time and money, but in reality they save you both in the long run (IT Support for Business). While having the best technologies helps a company stay relevant and ahead of competition, there are also three top benefits (IT Support for Business).  The top three benefits are improving security,  Increasing productivity and efficiency, and preventing complications with outdated devices. The list of benefits is lengthy, which is why I would put 70% of my budget into additional technology.

Training

Training is also important. Employees can be both a company’s strongest asset and biggest risk. Which means some level of training is required. “Training your employees about cybersecurity will help ensure that fraudsters will not end up with your important information, and your company will stay safe” (Hendon). With that being said, training gets out dated fast and employees have to learn things as they go even with training. That’s why I would only put 30% of the budget into training because while it is important it doesn’t always prove to be the most effective.

Conclusion

In conclusion, If I owned a company and had to divide the budget between additional technologies and training, I would divide it 70-30. This is because of the value and benefits that come with keeping up to date technologies and because training can become outdated and sometimes ineffective due to the constant developments in the cyber world.
