Essay one

High school was an enjoyable experience, but I do believe that high school did not prepare me well enough for college. In high school assignments were handed out often, which at the time I thought to be tiresome but necessary to succeed I see now that having fewer assignments makes passing a harder task. It seems that college professors don’t give out as much homework but do assign homework with lots of problems or work to make up for little class time work also seems more rushed as professors most likely don’t talk to other professors in different buildings much or at all, it could end up being that a student has three projects due in only a few days. I do believe that high school, or at least mine, tried to get its students ready for college, though it wasn’t much. Teachers and staff would always say how college was going to be different and that we couldn’t turn in work late or do it before class, which many of my classmates and I would often do. High school made me have an internal schedule or priority list where I would do all the tedious work as soon as I got home from school, and all that I couldn’t understand as well as the work that I felt could be completed during lunch during school so I could get help from friends. However, now I realize I’m going to need to change my priorities. All that I used to do to get by in high school my time management will need to change because I’m already starting to stay up late doing work just to keep up with some of my classes. So far I’m well off living alone, but I can see that taking a turn as I’m already out of physical paper money, all because I went out and bought unnecessary things, and now I’m unable to buy simple necessities. Highschool, of course, can’t help with preparing a student to live alone, so that didn’t help. I was able to go visit Panama earlier this year for two weeks and lived with others but I was mainly expected to be self-sufficient which I was able to accomplish. So when entering college I wasn’t expecting it to be the same as my experience in Panama though I had some experience. Concerning paperwork and legal work, high school does not help in that field I had to look up everything online and ask for help from my parents and still I filled out forms without really understanding what many were about but I’m here at college, so something must have worked. High school either doesn’t do a great job of teaching people how to do legal paperwork or doesn’t teach its students about contracts at all which I believe is a big problem and should be addressed the same way personal finance was addressed in Virginia.
