Interview a Health Professional

Lydia and the Importance of a Team

Summary of Interview

The health professional I interviewed is Lydia Bondoc. She is a night supervisor at Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. In the beginning of her medical career she first studied in medicine before switching to nursing due to the major not working out, which she found an affinity for nursing as she studied. Her role as a night supervisor is to manage the hospital and report to her higher-ups in the morning of what she accomplished that night. Her hospital is sustainable because her team works together to “make things happen” regardless of staff shortage. She believes her work environment is not eco-friendly, especially due to the pandemic. With her stance on sustainable climate-friendly practices, she believes they are important if everyone on the team plays their part in maintaining the practices. To maintain sustainable practices in her work environment, there are “mandatory in-services” required by the state. To Lydia, some of the barriers of keeping a sustainable work environment are not being efficient enough due to lack of training, staff is not cohesive, and no income progress. One of Lydia’s favorite aspect of her job is mentoring; her most surprising aspect was being promoted to a position she didn’t want to be in. A challenging aspect of her career is dealing with staff members of younger generations who do not respect their seniors and believe they “know-it-all.” A piece of advice she would give to those seeking a job in the health field is to pursue it if it is what they truly want to do that career.

What I learned from my interview with Lydia Bondoc is that being a team player is an important aspect in the health professions. Each nurse should work together for the betterment of patients and to maintain sustainability in the work environment. Without every one playing their part in the hospital, things would not go smoothly. I also learned that being a nurse requires passion- it is not an easy major to pursue.
