SPAN 101

Unit 1: Quien Soy Yo

  • This module was used to as a stepping stool to introduce the class to ways we can greet each other and describe ourselves. This module recognizes cognates, numbers, vocabulary, and conversation starters. This is a basic stepping stone but it carries throughout our course so much that it becomes part of our daily lifestyle.

Unit 2: Quien Eres Tu

  • This module was used to introduce techniques to ask/answer questions, start/end conversations, plural forms to talk about groups of things and people, and how to talk about careers and majors. This is how we can hold and support our foundation for conversations.

Unit 3: Que Tengo Que Hacer Esta Semana

  • This module was used to teach us about the days of the week, schedules, time telling, etc. to talk about responsibilities and other activities. It encourages us as students to connect with our students and how to plan around colliding dates from other people. This will also help us with making appointments, hangouts, etc.

Unit 4: Como Es Mi Universidad

  • This module was used to talk about our campus life (what we like and what we don’t like) and how to describe school and what it teaches us – how to apply our knowledge in the spanish speaking world. This is super helpful as college students to be able to describe our campus to anyone who doesn’t speak our native tongue – English.

Unit 5: A Quien Admiro

  • This module was used to talk about people we admire using personality traits, learning to describe what they do, and apply knowledge to formulate texts about them. This will help us trying to describe someone we adore to someone who knows them as nothing but a complete stranger. It gives them a chance to want to be persuaded to be make a connection with someone we talk so highly or lowly of.

Interpersonal Communication

Through this course, we have completed discussion boards which contained sub-topics of the main view of the week. I typically enjoyed this technique of communicating because: it connected us as classmates on a more personal level and it made the learning experience more fun. It connected us as classmates on a more personal level which made getting to know each other online in a different way. While we were learning about Spanish, we were also learning about each other which made responding to the boards more intriguing. It made the learning more fun because it was beyond the standard black and white. It gave us the freedom to respond how we see fit.

Presentational Speaking

The example of presentational speaking that we did include Flipgrid where we would record a video of ourselves having a conversation and starting a conversation with our classmates. This was a very enchanting feature due to the class being virtual so it tends to be boring and sometimes lonely. With this app, we had the chance to see our fellow classmates face to face and could give feedback to one another. This program not only gave us an interactive experience but it also boosted our creativity. It gave us the opportunity to see how different our conversations could be.

Interpretive Listening

The example of interpretive listening would be Conversations with our teacher and listening and interpreting what we heard on our audio assignments via lingrolearning. Throughout the personal one on one conversations with our teachers, we had to listen in order to make a connection to formulate a sentence to respond. This benefited us because it gave us direct feedback and it helped us decipher how to correctly sound in real time. The same thing happens with Learning because it also goes step by step in order to ensure that we are on the right path to correctly have a conversation.
