For this last assignment, we were given the task of doing five random nice things for people we do and don’t know. This is all about how being kind makes you happy. For each of the nice things, we were to give in detail what made us do it, how the person reacted to it, how it made me feel. For me personally, doing a random act of kindness is something that brings me joy and happiness. Whether it be small repetitive actions or big ones, it helps me know that I brought a smile to someone, whether that smile be big or small. Giving back is something important to me, especially from where I come from.

Assignment 4 was primarily about finding about yourself as a lover and what types of love you display. This was very important to understand who we are, whether we have been in a relationship, are in one, or desire to be in one. In social psychology terms, this is all about having romantic emotions towards another individual and portraying them out. For this assignment, we were given the task of filling out a Style of Love Questionnaire, where we were able to identify what kind of love we displayed the most and the least. This was very important in finding out and discussing the type of love norms we found we related to the most and whether we would like to ease up a bit on ones we didn’t feel comfortable with or maybe tighten up with the ones we wanted to, or we were fine with what we scored.

The reason I chose this is what I got from all this, is that a relationship should be 50/50. Your significant other should be putting out the same amount of energy you are putting into the relationship. If they aren’t, whats the point of being in one then?

This second assignment was primarily about self-reflection. Self-Reflection can be an important exercise that we can utilize to improve our self-awareness, strengths, weakness, and other factors that help us grow. In social psychology terms, it enables us to strengthen our social interaction and social skills. For this assignment we were given the task of obtaining 6-12 pictures of ourselves and reflecting upon it. This assignment was more opinionated-based but I found it very beneficial in understanding myself better. I was able to fully understand what I did in life, such as sports, has helped pushed my drive to become not better in athletics or school, but also to be a better person.

I chose this picture of me and my ODU Club Rugby teammates to represent how much sports has been a big influence in my life. Not only has it helped me become stronger physically, it has helped me become stronger mentally. Playing sports has taught me to be disciplined, take care of your teammates, show sportsmanship, and my favorite, to never give up on anything.

This first assignment was based on the different heuristics in psychology, a strategy we utilize to make decisions quicker. For this assignment, we were given the task of describing each heuristic with our own example and imply how inaccurate each heuristic can be. The different types of heuristics that were discussed in this assignment were representativeness heuristic, availability heuristic, anchoring and adjustment and status quo. I picked up that each heuristic has their own unique feature and characteristic on how individuals use it everyday to make their decisions.

An example of representativeness heuristic from another class is Anatomy. Growing up, I believed having big muscular arms meant that someone was stronger than someone that had smaller, yet still toned arms. I was mistaken since there are more factors than a person’s arm size when it comes to strength. It showed that size didn’t matter when it comes to strength. The assignment was relevant to me because it made me understand with anchoring and adjustment, I was able to sell a pair of my old sneakers for a higher price by starting higher than it should’ve been.

The picture that I felt best represents heuristics is this picture of a Rugby Player named “Faf de Klerk” (in green) making the tackle on a player who is about 10 inches taller and 100 pounds heavier. This shows that because of representativeness heuristic, many people ought that he wouldn’t be able to make the tackle, but in this case he was able to tackle the ball carrier (in white) almost 10 meters back.
