The outlined objectives to me are very useful for me especially since I am planning to work in the medical field as a dental hygienist. Learning and getting familiar with these objectives will enhance my social skills. The objective “discuss the processes through which people perceive and attempt to understand others” will help me become proficient in having a broad understanding of people with different perspectives from me. This will be useful because in every walk of life there are so many different people I will cross paths with and they’ll have different outlooks and opinions. I am hoping to gain a better understanding of how this process goes to see how I can see the different approaches I can use when understanding others. To succeed in this class, I will use my planner to keep up with due dates to avoid missing assignments. I will also try and develop good time management skills with completing assignments. Finally, I will study the material that is given to me and get a full understanding. I have been enjoying this course so far and I am excited to learn more.

What kind of student am I? I believe that I am a diligent, hardworking, and motivated student. I am confident that I will make a name for myself and that my hard work will one day be worth it. My confidence can improve if I improve my time management. As an undergrad, I’ve always had an issue with procrastinating. I spend the day thinking about what I have to do instead of just getting it done. I start regretting why I didn’t do my work instead of complaining about the work. I do pretty well when I am at a paced time but I think it is too stressful when I wait last minute. I sometimes work too hard when I know I am getting burnt out. I work part-time and I do think I work too hard instead of focusing on what’s important. I try my best to set goals for myself which usually works. Although I lack time management I always find a way to finish my work on time. If I master time management I think I would have more confidence as a student. My self-efficacy score is 33. My score reflects more self-efficacy. I know I am efficient in anything I am put to do as long as I am dedicated to what I’m doing.

Music to me is one of the most important connections to have with people. Most of the friends I have met from a music class during high school. So, we all have that musical connection and have the same interests in music. Even the meaning behind songs we listen to we usually relate and I like how music can speak to you. I’ve noticed that we all do share similar values and ideas and it correlates with our music taste.
When on a road trip around the Philippines, there were no radio stations available for us to listen to music. So, my uncle took out his CDs and he pulled out “Abbey Road” by The Beatles. The one song I will never forget from that experience was “Here comes the Sun”. Adele’s albums are named after the age she wrote them. Her album “19” was the album I dedicated to my last teenage year. It was a point in my life when I was realizing that I was about to face the real world. The song I associate with my friend Amy is “Breathe (2 AM)” by Anna Nalick. The song that I associate with my parents is “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton. Music speaks more words than I can even explain and I love that I can use music and songs to dedicate to people who are important to me.

For Exam 1, I was able to use my testing strategies by reviewing my notes and watching the Jeopardy videos. Reviewing my notes and applying those strategies helped me get an A. So, I did pretty well but there were two questions I missed so on those topics so I still need some improvement. When reading those questions you have to use critical thinking. When reviewing the two questions I missed, I realized that I didn’t read thoroughly enough. I was kind of conflicted on which answer to choose because they both sounded correct.
During my test review, I watched the Jeopardy videos, my notes, the study guide, and the textbook. My notes were from the PowerPoints in each week’s module. I arranged my notes by each module and reread the highlighted parts that I thought were important for me to remember. I tried studying for at least 2 hours every other day until the test so it would help me remember the material. For the videos, I wrote down the question and the answer on flashcards. I found that very helpful for me because I was told to start using flashcards. This feedback will help with future tests because I know good strategies that work for me because of my results.

While hearing Jean Kilborne’s TED talk, “The Dangerous Ways Ads See Women” was the sad truth. I’ve always noticed how ads and social media sexualize and dehumanize women when trying to convince women to buy a product to make them think they would look “perfect” after using their product. They also sexualize women by making them wear fewer clothes and show more skin. When ads present men, they like to show how men are more masculine and tough. They never emotionally present men. As for women, they present them to be sexy, fair-skinned, with straight hair, etc.

Emotional intelligence is being able to take charge of our emotions. Self-Regulation is being able to control our behavior and impulses when under pressure. In my opinion, they both go hand and hand. Having Emotional Intelligence is like showing emotions and identifying them and self-regulation is how you behave or react when having those emotions.
Emotional intelligence to me is acknowledging how to feel. For example, giving a person advice and giving them hope but also acknowledging the person’s feelings. An example of Self-Regulation is making a goal for yourself and seeing how you go about accomplishing the goal.
The image below is my results from my EQ test which is out of 10. My results appear that I can sympathize with emotions and my own. But my self-management seems to be a bit low. I’ve always noticed that this has been a problem for me. My social awareness and relationship management are high which I am happy about because I think that is good for social skills.

The first image I chose is showing a woman yelling at a man. The other image is a man looking at another woman. The article taught me how men and women act differently in relationships. Both genders hide emotions that cause them to try to make the other person react to get their way.
Men and women frustrate women but in different ways. Infidelity is one of the biggest reasons that couples argue. Men irritate women because of their lack of emotion and because they are sometimes clueless about what women need. But women aren’t perfect. Women can irritate men as well. Women can sometimes demand too much and think their way is the only way. Men and women get jealous but men have a tendency to be more flirtatious.

The reason I chose this photo is that it is a visual example of how much creativity came to mind when I was doing my assignments. I learned a lot about what kind of significant other I am from Assignment 4. I’ve learned what I can do differently when another relationship comes around. I also learned more about how music and people correlate. It was nice for me to think of songs that I could correlate with people. Assignment 2 taught me the importance of taking photos. I’ve learned to take more pictures and to remember those significant times.
For blog 5, I did an assignment from an English class that was similar to the advertisements I was talking about. Now, I look at advertisements and realize who exactly the advertisements it trying to target. There are so many little details in advertisements for people to acknowledge what product or what they’re trying to explain.

During this course, I think I have achieved the course’s objectives by comparing them to my everyday life. It helped me grasp a better understanding and made me do critical thinking.
