For the questionnaire assignment I was able to see what my preferences were for certain styles of love. After completing this assignment, I saw that my scores were different than what I would have imagined if I had known the styles ahead of time. I scored higher in the Agape and Storage sections of the questionnaire and agreed with the results. Certain sections of the questionnaire dealt with styles that are different than what I have considered in my relationships. After completing the assignment, I was interested in how some styles are expressed in a healthy relationship. Since the assignment allowed me to reflect on the aspects of a relationship, I have learned that what I focus on now could possibly change in the future.

The assignment reminded me of other types of personality questionnaires that I have done in the past. In this questionnaire the material related to the information in the book regarding the understanding of the self and how we reflect change in developing relationships. When thinking about my past relationships, I considered the information in chapter four regarding the ways we use self-promotion and self-regulation when socializing. I also felt that this assignment was personally relevant to me and gave me a chance to reflect on some of the aspects of a relationship that I haven’t given much thought to for a long time. By expanding my perspective of my current preferences in styles of love I will probably feel more comfortable about the changes that my relationships go through further down the road. I chose this picture since it visualizes the different love styles.

Working on Assignment Three allowed me to take a critical look into the different ways that a discriminatory attitude can be reflected in a person’s behavior when they are having a personal crisis. This assignment was also interesting since it allowed me to consider the ways that humor might be used inappropriately as an excuse to say prejudice things. I was able to relate this assignment to some of the information covered in the attribution section of the class textbook. Regarding to the causes of a person’s behavior, the information about attribution helped me to consider the causes for Michael’s use of offensive and hurtful language during his outburst.

This assignment was personally relevant to my life. The activity of considering the motives behind Michael’s rant allowed me to reflect on the behaviors of the people in my own life. I believe that considering whether a person is trying to be hurtful, racist, or both when joking is important when trying to understand their behavior. I have considered the implicit attitudes of some of the older people in my life. I have noticed that whenever they say something offensive as a joke, they typically try to walk it back by saying that it isn’t how they really feel about a specific person or group. After completing this assignment, I learned that there is probably not a way in which a slur can be used as a joke without being hurtful and offensive. I chose this picture because it helps portray the way that unconscious bias effects perception.

The Self-Portrait assignment was an opportunity to reflect on the different aspects of how my perception of myself has developed over the years. By working on this assignment, I have learned that there are many contributing events that have shaped my self-concept, perceived self-control, and self-presentation. After working on this assignment, I can see how the experiences in the photos chosen, have also contributed to the development of my social perceptions. The experiences depicted in the photos are the basis for how I use attribution in understanding others behavior.

This assignment was relevant to experiences I had as a teenager. As a teenager, I was taken to counseling to help cope with stressors caused by experiences as a child.  Through counseling I was introduced to self-help techniques that involved learning how my self-concept had been formed and how social comparisons can lead use to make errors in understanding our perceived self-control. By working on this assignment, I was able to revisit some of the same ways of reflection and look at how my perceptions and perceived self-control has changed since then. I chose this image since it is a good visually depiction of how we can examine the parts that make us who we are.

I learned from the heuristics assignment that there are many ways in which a person and can come to a quick decision by using the four different kinds of mental shortcuts explained in the book. I have also learned that a person can use these shortcuts to make important decisions when not much time is available. During this assignment I also learned that there are also ways that errors can be made, and it is important to consider that quick judgements can have negative consequences.

I can apply what I have learned about heuristics to other psychological subjects. For instance, in a book about time management, there are ways in which we naturally organize our priorities and daily tasks. By being aware of what mental process we use to make quick decisions we can decide which tasks are worth setting aside for more time and careful thought while allowing low level tasks to be handled quickly. I have learned that there are many ways that we facilitate quick thinking and evaluations in life to be productive. The image I chose represents a visual interpretation of how heuristics are used by choice and not necessarily required in every situation.
