Assignment Takeaway 4
- I gave food to a homeless person.
- I gave an interview for people that needed it for their assignment.
- I told a girl that she looked beautiful.
- I told a random guy in a club that his shoes were amazing.
- I bough a product from a street vendor in NY because she was not having a good day.
I always try to be nice to people because I believe that I should treat people the same way I would like people to treat me. In the past, there have been moments when I randomly decided to, for example, last year I went back to my country and I planned to sell a new iPad that I had just bought at the time, but instead of making any profit from it, I gave it to my cousin because I know it is hard for her to afford it. There have been times when I have shared my food or my money even though I did not have enough for me because watching people getting excited or happy, makes me happy.
People always react in a positive way, even those who are always mad, have a nice reaction and that is just enough for me. I don’t know how to explain it. Mainly for those who do not have money or the same opportunity as me, that is the people who I try to help the most. For example, I started my own business a year ago, and this business is about selling close to create revenue to support athletes from sports that do not receive enough attention from the media. For me, sports are the strongest tool that society has to help improve it.
I do these actions all the time, this is not weird for me, but I would recommend people to do these actions at least every time in a while because it gives you a sensation that cannot be described with words and it definitely improves your mood and even better, one little good action can have a powerful outcome on the other person.
Assignment Takeaway 1
This assignment was interesting because it was about a controversial topic that not many people like to talk about, which is prejudices. Many say that they do not judge, but sometimes it is inevitable. It has happened to me, and I do not think it makes you a bad person to unconsciously judge people because it results from what society has built and has put into our heads.
I believe we should stop prejudices, and we can change them by changing the stereotypes. It is not an easy job, but it can be done. I relate to some of the heuristics discussed in this chapter. I believe that everyone has prejudices, and it is interesting to know they have a specific name for each one of them.
I choose this picture because many times I have seen kids that seem like they are not athletic, but they end up playing even better than me.
