Reflection

In Spanish this year I had a pretty good year. It was fun, easy, and hard at the same time. It was easy because I have a background in Spanish speaking it in the house with my parents since I am Dominican-American. It was fun because our professor was very outgoing and made sure that we had the ability to practice with other classmates. It was also hard because even though I speak it in the house with my parents I still had trouble with conjugations. Fortunately with the help of doing activities and more specifically projects on Lingro Hub, I was definitely able to overcome the obstacles that were presented in this class.

Exploring Culture

Some activities I have done to help me further understand the materials were the projects along with the homework assignments. I have grown a great amount while doing these.

The challenge that these perspectives revealed to me is that learning to be fluent in a language takes repetition. You can’t just stop speaking it then start again a week later. The challenge is also focusing on what words to use due to the conjunctions. For me conjugating was the hardest part. After a while it tends to get easier.

Engaging in Communities

The value of engaging in your communities is that you bring awareness to an issue that keeps occurring.

Interpersonal Communication

This was a spontaneous task. Talking abroad included me talking to my family still in The Dominican Republic. This was a fun task.

My interpersonal communications in this semester were spontaneous and unplanned. Times I did not realize I was communicating for example sign language. Next is when I actually studied and practiced with individuals.

Presentational Speaking

This semester I had to complete a video with me talking about the different places on the campus.

In each presentation the thing that challenged me the most is knowing what to say. It was not an easy process. I needed to know all of the information that I went over for each project from each chapter.

Presentational Writing

Articles of what social media is common in some Hispanic Countries. What individuals prefer to read about.

In this section I have read about and wrote about the types of social media and historical figures in different Hispanic countries. Instagram and Facebook I have found were the two most common forms of social media in Latin America. The least common forms were snapchat and myspace.

Interpretive Listening

Listening to another student. Speaking to another student.

In this section I was able to communicate with another student and talk about regular everyday talk with them. This was challenging because I did not want to mess up. It was also good because it gave me the experience. Below is a blooper of back when I did the project.

Interpretive Reading

I read about how many different people interpret the way history is through their historical figures. For example, Frida Kahlo of Mexico was smart, and talented. People who look up to her may see history of a way or means of the arts.
