Ever since I discovered my passion for medicine in the 5th grade, I’ve dreamt of becoming a sports medicine doctor. My journey has been shaped crossing of my mother’s career in medicine and my father’s passion for sports, they inspired me to pursue this goal. As I look into the future, my aspiration is to attend VCU for medical school, although I remain open to the possibilities that await me at other universities.
Through the years, I witnessed firsthand the hardships and tribulations my mother went to pursue her dream and become the anesthesiologist that she is today. Her hard work and commitment to her goal instilled a great deal of respect and love for the field of medicine. Concurrently, my father’s admiration for the love of sports opened my eyes to the world of athletics, where I developed and nourished my love for sports as well. My parental figures, guardians and protectors shaped my dream without even knowing it.
My ultimate dream is to become a sports medicine doctor for premier athletic organizations such as the NFL, WWE, OR NBA. I am driven by the rare opportunity to work closely with these elite athletes, as well as looking to innovate and better recovery protocols. My goal is to push the envelope on rehabilitation for severe injuries. Aiming to reduce recovery times and optimize performance for these world-renowned athletes.
At this current point in my academic journey, I am beyond excited to tackle the next phase of my education. Knowing that VCU is a top 100 ranked medical institution that aligns with my career aspirations. However, I am not naïve enough to not know that life can and will throw wrenches in places they do not belong. With that being said, as previously stated; I am prepared and willing to consider other medical schools that I am accepted into. Recognizing the value and diverse experiences can play into shaping a person and their career.
To further prepare for my future as a sports medicine doctor, I have dedicated my time and pushed myself to gain as much knowledge from others as possible. Such as shadowing an orthopedic surgeon in the Richmond area, joining clubs aimed to help black men achieve their goals of earning a “white coat” and more. These experiences have further backed my belief that the integration of medicine and sports is not just fascinating but also a necessity in getting the best out of each and every person.
As I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead, I am committed to my learning and growth in the field of sports medicine. I am eager to collaborate with experts in the field, contribute to cutting-edge research, and advocate for advancements that enhance athletic performance and well-being. At this point in time, my journey has equipped me with the skills, strength, determination, and passion needed to achieve my dreams of becoming a sports medicine doctor and making a lasting impact in the lives and careers of athletes worldwide.
