Assignment 3 Takeaway
I did not finish the assignment on time, but I still decided to finish it at a later time. I got a couple things from it. I chose the picture below to show how what we may perceive as ordinary may be something new and interesting to someone else.
Multiple things go into a person’s experience in a new country. For Ryo Wulf who I was doing the paper on is from Japan and went to Italy. It was kind of a culture shock for him, which I can relate to because I also had a school-related trip to Italy. As much as we both liked pizza and pasta, we both missed our home country food. His was sushi and mine being McDonalds or just having french fries. What I took from this assignment is that culturally we are all so similar but different. Economically and socially in each country, the USA, Italy and Japan. Over in the US or in Japan we have more chain stores than like family owned businesses in Italy. Another is that in Japan and Italy they have very huge historical tourist place while in the US they’re small and spread apart. I think it was cool to see someone else prospective on their visit to Italy and to compare to my own.
Assignment 2 Takeaway
What I take from assignment two that although the US is a melting pot there is an underlying culture that brings us together. We all believe in the “American Dream”. Although we as US citizens act like it is not important or something immigrants may believe, but I feel like it something we all deep down believe. We, as US citizen believe the underdogs can raise up and get themselves out the gutter to move on to live a better life. Although I am not poor, but not wealthy either I always believed that I will be richer in the future. Another aspect to the American dream is that we are individuals with our own ideas and abilities. I think this is important to us as Americans because this gives us hope and makes us feel more important than what we may feel. From this assignment I learned we, US citizens are in our own bubble. Which I am not shocked, it is something that I know, but it is not something you think about. You think everywhere is the same, but it is not. A lot of people around the world will do anything to have the rights we have. We as a country do whatever we want and as individuals we do whatever we want. That is a blessing and a curse because we often have a mindset of “the end justifies the means”. It was a a good assignment overall. It caused me do some self reflection as an individual to understand what I want for myself and my country.
