A breach is a security violation, which leads to sensitive information being duplicated, viewed, transferred, or stolen by an unauthorized user. The information provided on breaches can be used to by organizations to stay up to date on new privacy legislation and amendments to previously established laws. For example, I am a insurance underwriter, in my day to day I collect sensitive data including license numbers, social security numbers, credit scores, and card numbers. It is important that I personally stay current on policies such as the Alabama Data Breach Notification Act of 2018. This legislation requires that all states have laws mandating companies to notify individuals when their sensitive information has been exposed due to a data breach.
