Our lives becoming more integrated with cybertechnology allow for a safer and more convenient world. However, having such easy and frequent access to all this different technology at our fingertips leaves the door open for unsafe activity and crime.
Cybertechnology has made the world a safer place in some respects. For example, modern vehicles are designed with crash assist technology. Crash assist technology gives the vehicle the ability to quickly detect a Collison and call emergency services. Time is key after someone is critically injured in an accident; this can save a life. Computers have even made our homes safer. Amazon provides products like Ring and smart locks, which allow the property owner to monitor and secure their household from a smartphone or computer. Lastly, cybertechnology advancements give us the ability to monitor our health from our phone. Patients with diabetes are able to keep an eye on their blood sugar levels to maintain good health.
With all the benefits of cybertechnology there are also some cons to technology being so accessible. Communication has been sped up a lot through use of the internet. Social media sites have become host for exploitation or individual of all ages, genders, and races. Users have fallen victim to love crimes or online grooming. It is important that we educate our youth about the dark side of the internet and give them the tools to protect themselves from online predators. Lastly, technology can be huge distraction especially behind the wheel. I work in the auto insurance industry and see how texting while driving can impact a person. Texting while driving has claimed the lives of so many people. There are technologies such as hands free and telematics driving programs attempting to fight against distracted driving.
