I scored a 4 out of 9 on the social media disorder scale. My areas of opportunity include dissatisfied because I wanted to spend more time on social media, failing to spend less time on social media, regularly neglecting other activities, and using social media to escape from negative feelings? This usually happens when I have something important to do like go to bed for work or an assignment. Sometimes I just want to scroll on TikTok or Instagram that get a full eight hours or do homework. Social media can be quite the distraction for me. You pick up your phone for a few moments, then you are going down some bizarre YouTube hole for hours. I am proud to say that I have been monitoring the screentime on my iPhone and it has decreased. At one point my daily average was 7 hours a day, now it is cut in half to 3 hours. I am glad that it has come down, but at one point it was harder than I thought to not be on my phone as much. The time spent does add up and can lead to extended periods of unproductivity. These extended periods of scrolling social media have caused me to neglect the gym and studying. I opened my first social media account on Myspace when I was in the fifth grade. Social media is a huge part of my life because I grew up with it.
