Lesson Plan for 11/18/20
Teacher: Delaney Conter
Subject Area: Music
Grade Level: K-2
Unit Title: Steady Beat
Lesson Title: Rests
Objectives:
- Students will be able to identify a steady beat vs an unsteady beat
- Students will be able to identify and preform a rest within a steady beat
Materials/Resources Needed:
- Paper
- Pencil
Anticipatory Set: I will remind the students the definition of a steady beat before playing audio examples for them. The class will then tell me as group whether the clip was a steady or unsteady beat. Following, I will have the class clap a steady, constant beat based on a PowerPoint visual. Students will have the opportunity to create their own rhythm on their paper and pencil.
Objective/Purpose: By the end of the class the students will be able to demonstrate a rest within a beat based on a visual.
Input: Students must already be able to clap a steady beat.
Model: I will clap the first several examples once before having the students join me.
Check for Understanding: Students will be asked to perform final class example without a prior model.
Guided Practice: Students will clap beat examples from the SmartBoard as a class.
Closure: Students will be asked to share the rhythms they created with the class by reading their creation and then clapping the rhythm for them.
Independent Practice: Students can create and practice another rhythm to be shared in class next week.
