Exploring Culture

A product that helped me the most understanding of cultural perspectives in the internet.

I was able to look into other cultures and understand them without being in the actual country. Researching what others think, how people live, and seeing the world through their eyes can be challenging at times especially with so many site to go to. Due to the language barrier it can be hard to navigate certain web sites and being am to take in all the information needed. As I pushed through, I thought to myself that normally people stop when it gets challenging, but if you continue you are able to succeed.

Engaging in Communities

With the rise in deepening and expanding public engagement globally, the importance of community engagement has become pivotal for well-functioning, twenty-first century democracies. Constructive relationships between communities and the institutions of government make community engagement not only desirable, but necessary and viable as it is likely to lead to more equitable, sustainable public decisions and improve the liveability of local communities. This is why community engagement is important for individuals, public organizations, and governments alike.

Reflect on your experience and participation in these communities. Include artifacts such as photos, audio/video clips, etc.

Interpersonal Communication

This semester we engaged in different activates online and in person. Each one took some time to finish.

This semester I had interpersonal communication activities with professor through out the semester. The professor would engage with the students and start conversations to get the students to think. The assignments that we did in class were very difficult for our skill level. Most assignments we were not able to finish them because they were so hard for the level at which the students were at. I exceled in vocabulary.

Presentational Speaking

This semester we recorded vides all around campus. We walked around campus describing our favorite places on campus. The video included some parts of our own living area. One assignment included us interviewing fellow students in Spanish.  

In the videos we had to think on the spot of what we were going to say so a lot of studying went into the videos before they even happened. During both videos, there were some parts where I struggled to remember sayings and certain vocabulary. To work through that, I took a second to regain my thought and worked through my sentence structure to get the right terminology. Next time, I hope to challenge myself more on the topics that I speak about.

Presentational Writing

This semester we did not do any presentational writing. We did a lot of videos of us speaking this year.

Interpretive Listening

There multiple activities in our homework that made us listen to videos or records and we had to determine what was being said in the video.

In class we had videos that would be apart of homework to where we would listen to someone say a word and we would have to determine what that word was. We also had a video of the campus and determine what the person in the video was talking about.

Interpretive Reading

Throughout the semester we had to search what other countries are like on the internet and see what we could understand. We also looked to see if their university websites were different.

Trying to understand another language when it comes to the internet can be very hard. It was difficult at times because each country is different when it comes to how they present them selves on the internet. What did help was knowing how the internet in ran in my country and I could use that to navigate through the internet.
