Hey Everyone,
Welcome to my blog! My name is D’Mya Richard, and I currently reside in Northeast Florida. I am studying Sport Management with the hopes of receiving my Master of Science from Old Dominion University. ODU is also where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communication. So obviously, Go Monarchs!
Basketball might have been the only sport I played competitively, but my love for sports runs deep. I have extensive knowledge of other sports. If you name a player, I more than likely could tell you a vast amount of information on him or her because that is just the love I have for all sports. Not only do I study what is occurring on the field, court, ice, etc. but I research even the smallest of details about a player or team. This started at a young age as these facts and information piqued my curiosity and have not stopped since. I remain curious to this day, and this helps me when researching anything related to sports.
I currently work at a local YMCA as a sport monitor for all sports and as a coach/trainer for basketball. I coach and train all ages which has led to me utilizing a lot of the knowledge I learned while studying strategic communication. Positivity and how you strategically word certain things can do wonders to the confidence of a young player. I had some positive memories during my playing days at the YMCA because of my coach. My time with him was filled with valuable memories. This was all due to how he was able to communicate with me. I hope my players can say the same about me when they reminisce on their young playing days. I want to be known as that coach that helped fuel their passion for the sport.
My hope is to work for a sports agency or management firm. Whether in a management or communication role, I hope to be a small part in the success for professional athletes. There are a lot of intricate details and plannings that happen behind-the-scenes for professional athletes that many do not know about. Athletes usually have a business team that handles all their off the court/field activities that way all the athlete has to do is worry about their performance. I want to be a valued member on the business side of things.
This blog and website in general were created with the purpose to express what sports means to me. The About Me page has images consisting of me and the absolute most favorite aspects of sports to me. This blog was created to give a more in-depth backstory on myself and sports. I have included images/gifs throughout this blog of my favorite women in sports because being a woman myself, I feel that they do not get as nearly as much love as their male counterparts. Lastly, I hope this website/blog can showcase the true definition of what sports means to me so that people can understand the passion I have for it.
Until next time!
