We all identify ourselves in different manners. There are different characteristics that can help others identify some of who we are. One of the things we use to help us get a sense of who someone is there prototypes. For example, if you were to meet someone on the street who engaged in a conversation with you about your shoes. When she left you noticed her wearing a business suit. You could safely assume that she might be a CEO by her confident demeanor and rushed behavior. You use Representativeness heuristic most times our assumptions are correct due to the fact that being in certain social groups affects our behaviors. Although this type of grouping can be a bit helpful, it is also an incorrect inference of a person. It makes us make assumptions effortlessly rather than to examine the situation.
In addition, there are different forms of Heuristic such as Availability heuristic. Availability heuristic speaks on how we use immediate examples that come to the mind to look at different situations. For instance, People tend to believe shark attacks are a big cause of death due to the publicity they receive then people being crushed by vending machines which happens more often. The error with this is that individuals can overestimate a circumstance occurring that the actual likelihood that it happened. This ultimately affects our judgment when doing certain tasks.
Furthermore, Anchoring & adjustment heuristic differ a lot more than the first two. It speaks on our ability to use a starting point to do something and make adjustments. For example, studying for a test is a process in which you begin by simply going over the materials. You slowly adjust your tactics to studying the material to the ability you have to retain the information. Lastly, is Status Quo heuristic which causes people to stay in a current situation due to lack of experience. This biased way of thinking can prevent individuals from doing necessary actions to develop themselves.
