Looking back at my first blog post and going through what I hoped this course would provide to me I feel as though my expectations were met. This course has allowed me to develop a better understanding of human interaction with other humans. Through this class I have been able to look at how we might code switch when being inserted into different environments. I’ve developed a better understanding of what our brains are constantly interpreting in social environments. I feel like when I first picked this class, I was thinking we would focus only on how each social interaction affects us neurologically, but social psychology is way more than that. It’s about how our personalities, attitudes, motivations, and behaviors can be influenced by different social gatherings. The one thing I would do differently would be to be better at keeping track of my work and due dates for assignments. Through this class I feel as though I’ve grown in my ability to interact with others. This class has helped with my biases when meeting people. First impressions are everything, but I have also grown to understand that there is more than just a first impression. I cannot be biased toward someone I’ve just met because then I don’t allow myself the ability to form a connection.

I learned mainly and generally about interactions and their complexities. In blog 8 it talks about the relationship between women and men and sexual assault. I feel this could refer to how I talked attraction and feelings between men and women I believe it was an assignment activity. What is the quality of the interaction between them and are there signs or red flags? Interactions are complex in how they connect together some way somehow.
I learned in my communications class the purpose of a relationship. Some relationships are for business and others for love, others are casual. In order to be in a relationship, or even a friend, I must maintain my relationship with you. In ATA 3, I scored low for pragma. I do not do love planning because that involves maintaining some sort of standing between the other party and myself. Mainly interaction.

To begin, In the article it discusses different ways in which men and women behave in social situations. The article goes into detail about how in intimate situations things are done differently. Furthermore, it talks about Sexual conflict. There are three stages of sexual conflict: Prior to consummation, after a relationship has formed., and lastly After a breakup. Each one gives us insight into social interaction within the mating process. To follow, interactions can be both good and bad. Men can irritate women by belittling them. At times Men belittle women without realizing it. The world has typically revolved around men so at times they tend to diminish women’s capabilities without knowing it. One instance where I realized this was hearing my mom stories about her job. My Mom worked on the back of an ambulance. Many of her male coworkers would second guess her judgment calls or try and reexplain what she has already said to do.
In contrast, women can irritate men. This can be shown in the form of rejection. I have consentingly seen women refusing the advances that men have tried to make yet, the fact that they are turned down even nicely can enrage some. I have personally experienced being yelled at for turning down an advance and I have seen it done. Rejection is not the only instance in which I’ve seen how a women might irritate a man. There are other ways in which a women might annoy a man. Sometimes this can come from miscommunication meaning at time a man might interpret certain kind actions that a woman makes as a form of flirting. This can cause confusion with a friendship and or work relationship. My best friend has had to go to a supervisor about a situation such as this. Her job involves constant interaction with her coworkers. What she saw as being nice or helpful toward him, he was interpreting it as flirting a soon he started making sexual advance toward her.

Emotional Intelligence and self-regulation are big things. There are relationships between them, in my opinion. To me, emotional intelligence is when someone is really in tune with who they are and they are able to control and regulate how they feel. It is one thing to know how you feel, when and why you feel it, but it is definitely bigger when you can digress in the midst of a problem. Self-regulation honestly has to do with managing your behavior, knowing that YOU are in control, and no one is accountable for your emotions and feeling other than you.
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to really understand, use and manage ones own emotions. A lot of this contains positive ways in relieving stress or even stress management. I will start by saying at times my anger can seem bigger than me, the person. I always want and feel the need to have the last word. But I have learned to refrain and often times walk away so there is no argument or outburst. In order to consider the other party’s feelings, I must take care and control my emotions. I have to take a walk, breathe, get in my own space and mindset.

I chose this image because, a lot of time self-regulation involves me coming back to the ‘center.’ I must focus on my breath or at least getting to a point of calming down be it when I am angry, sad, overwhelmed. Taking time to address and target what is making me feel the way I am feeling, labeling the emotion and then working to a solution helps.
I know there are times when my emotions really do get the best of me. Learning to contain myself and how I feel, can be a challenge at times but it is a process.

I found a credible source in Picture A due to its precise fact and the source from which it came. The organization that produced the ad is an organization that was created to help veterans. Their main focus is to help veterans with their day-to-day lives whether that be transitioning them from out of the military finding jobs and or getting them assistance. They do help veterans with issues such as PTSD and others related to their service. They have been a big advocate in suicide prevention for veterans and are trying to do their best to prevent unnecessary deaths. Many don’t know or see the severity of veteran suicides and how much the transition from the military to civilian life is. Not everyone has someone in the military that they know so they are not exposed to how people are affected sometimes by serving in it.
I found the non-credible source more effective because it was definitely more appealing when it comes to visual representations and was more interesting to read. Due to the simplicity of how the information was presented. When we process this information majority of the time heuristic processing or the peripheral route to persuasion. With both of these we tend to engage more with certain cues that the message gives off. In this case the ad represented in picture B is a Chick-fil-a. Everyone knows that the mascot is a cow, and the cow is always trying to influence you to eat more chicken so that he can remain alive. The ad spoke to me a lot because I was hungry but also because the ad was visually appealing. As soon as I saw the ad, I was able to easily identify the overall message and absorb what it was saying. The overall stake that the Chick-fil-a ad has is for you to eat more chicken and less beef. They are trying to persuade us that beef is bad, which is why we should go to the restaurant and grab some chicken. The more of their product that we buy the more capital they are able to gain.
I found the attractive source effective due to its overall look. When examining the ad in Picture C we notice a beautiful woman on one side of the picture. She looks completely flawless and attractive to the eye. When looking at the other half we see her beauty diminishing due to her smoking habit. When looking at the two sides together the message tends to scare you. You can see how cigarettes affect how you might look. Another key is the message which reads “Your beauty up in smoke” the quote further pushed the idea of beauty.

My studying strategies consist of flashcards and using the power point notes. I know that my studying ways could be better by not procrastinating as much but for some subjects it doesn’t affect my retention. After studying term vocabulary, I tried my best to apply each term in the right context to make sure I fully understood the material. I scored fairly well on the test I received an 88/100. I missed some questions that involved applying the terms. A lot of the test questions involved using the terms in different scenarios. One of the strategies recommended when reviewing the exam was to identify the problems that were wrong and search for the right answer. The goal in doing so is to understand the term and how it is meant to be used. By learning how to use the terms in context I felt as though I was better able to understand when they were used. I believe my studying strategies helped me properly prepare for the test. I believe that it was effective, and I will probably replicate it.

I believe as a student I am extremely hard working and I take my time to make sure I am able to submit work with the best quality. I tend to go out my way to plan my week around my course load and classes. I do know at times I have a tendency to slack off especially when I am tired. I can procrastinate things to the last minute but it is very stressful. I could improve my procrastination habits by better planning out how to use my time. I believe my self efficiency is at a moderate level. It is neither poor nor amazing but more so average.
Last semester I was working full time and going to school full time. I did fairly well on the test because I have had to learn an efficient way to study while working. Being able to create flashcards so that I can study on the go. My test to me reflected what I anticipated.
