It uses real-world examples for each, like tiered government clearances, shared document edit histories, and redundant power for servers. It also explains how authentication (verifying who you are) differs from authorization (what you’re allowed to do once verified).

Read the write-up

Managing and Protecting Critical Infrastructure with SCADA Systems

This write-up looks at how SCADA systems let small teams monitor large-scale infrastructure like water treatment, manufacturing, healthcare, and transportation. It examines why these systems are vulnerable due to various reasons such as outdated technology, missing security features, and a false sense of safety from air-gapped networks. It concludes with the consequences of cyberattacks on these systems and ways to improve security and resilience.

Read the write-up

The Human Factor in Cybersecurity

This write-up explores how human behavior, judgment, and psychology can undermine technically secure systems. It covers unintentional insider threats like phishing and social engineering, the psychological, social, and organizational reasons people are exploited, as well as ways organizations can reduce risk to the vulnerabilities involved with humans.

Read the write-up

Cybersecurity, Technology, and Society Students in IT/CYSE 200T will explore how technology is related to cybersecurity from an interdisciplinary orientation. Attention is given to the way that technologically-driven cybersecurity issues are connected to cultural, political, legal, ethical, and business domains.
