Biography: Dr. Ryan J. Roberts earned his PhD in International Studies from Old Dominion University with concentrations in Modeling & Simulation and Conflict & Cooperation. He applies quantitative research methods that utilize big data, predictive analytics, and machine learning to examine social phenomena. His research focuses on the local, national, and transnational security implications of non-state violent actors. Prior to earning his PhD, Dr. Roberts worked as a Correctional Officer for the State of North Carolina. During his tenure, he served on the Security Threat Group (STG) Intelligence Committee and the Prison Emergency Response Team (PERT).
Dr. Roberts holds Master’s degrees in Global Political Economy and International Business. While completing his doctoral dissertation, he began teaching at the College of the Albemarle where he continues to work as an Assistant Professor of Business Administration. He has also worked for the NATO Civil-Military Fusion Center as an Assistant Knowledge Manager for the Haiti Response Team during the 2010 earthquake, and as the Project Manager for Tanga, Tanzania at Toledo Sister Cities International.
