Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how these majors relate to cybersecurity.

There are several different majors that are offered by ODU that relate to cybersecurity. The four that I choose to talk about for this journal entry are criminology, sociology, psychology, and cybercrime.

First on the list is criminology. This major is very closely related to cybersecurity because criminology investigates crimes that happen in the real world as well as online. Crimes committed in the cyberspace are becoming more and more popular in today’s world. Almost all of our information is found online from our bank information, social security number, or home address and hacking into and stealing this information from people is a crime.

Second is sociology. I believe this is has one of the bigger relations with cybersecurity than meets the eye. Sociology in basic terms is basically just the study of society and how it operates. Well, today there are more people in the cyberspace than ever before. More people are communicating, working, and posting their lives online for the world to see. What would all of this have to do with cybersecurity? Well, why do people commit crimes online or even how people interact are all questions that sociology can answer that stem from cybersecurity.

Third is psychology. Like sociology it studies people, but not together as a whole. Psychology studies the mind and behaviors of individuals from infants to elderlies. So, what’s the relation? Well again, what does almost everyone do every day? We go online. They relate because psychology basically studies how cybersecurity affects us. If your Facebook got hacked, what would you do? How would you feel? All questions that relate psychology and cybersecurity.

Lastly, I chose computer science. Computer science is the study of anything that has to do with a computer basically. Information technology, electrical engineering, and cybersecurity are just some of the things that fall under this umbrella. A person who majored in computer science may not know everything that has to do with cybersecurity, but I believe that they would have a basic understanding of some of the things that cybersecurity is about.
