Compare cybersecurity risks in the U.S. and another country.
In the United States, there are several different cybersecurity risks that keep security professionals on their toes twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The top cybersecurity risks in my opinion include several attacks on our country’s critical infrastructure like our electric grids, attacks on our industrial control systems, and the simple spread of malicious content to the individual through online communication. Obviously, there are many more risks, but these were some of the more important ones to me and I think the risks that envelope our infrastructure and ICS need to be addressed first. If our electrical grid or a water treatment plant was the victim of a cyber-attack, there are several negative outcomes with the loss of human lives being the worst-case scenario.
These risks are shared with other countries as well, like China. For instance, phishing is a popular way to spread malicious content through something like spam emails. With over 70% of all emails in the world being spam today, China climbs to the top of the list with the most cases of this. China, on the other hand, has also been on the attacking side of a cybersecurity attack and continues to be monitored by the United States as a cybersecurity threat.
