How should we approach the development of cyber-policy and infrastructure given the “short arm” of predictive knowledge?

The thing about cybercrime is that we will never know what the next thing will be or what comes next. It is a fact that is definitely daunting, but not hopeless for us. I believe that our approach toward the development of policy and infrastructure surrounding the cyber world is to take it slow. We do not have to have everything, but simply allowing ourselves to be open to new ideas and possibilities will be beneficial. That’s because it is hard to keep billions of people safe in the cyber world if the attack strategy is always changing. We need to leave room for different people or countries to update or adapt to emerging technology because we cannot just fix it all in one swing, which would be the worst approach in my opinion. We can’t stay complacent with all the new cyber-policy and infrastructure being developed. We need to evolve, change, update, or adapt to the new playing field. The “short arm” of predictive knowledge we do have should keep us just a small step ahead, but we can’t predict anything and everything that will happen in the cyberspace. This makes the recovery from cyber-attacks crucial as well. Putting in cyber-policy and infrastructure that is more flexible and able to adjust will allow us to bend and not break.

That’s why I believe the best approach toward the development of cyber-policy and cyber-infrastructure is something that needs to happen pitch-by-pitch. If we just put a big blanket over every single thing, cyber criminals will continue to change and find new ways to hurt people today. So, allowing us to change and update our policy and infrastructure is the key to staying ahead of cybercrime and not the other way around.
