LEARNING STYLE: SELF ASSESSMENT

For me personally, I adjust my studying habits to the class materials that need to be reviewed. For example, in Math or science classes I tend to focus more on practicing the problems and memorizing formulas whereas, in an English or history class, I would focus more on reviewing the materials and key passages. The techniques tend to change depending on the subject and focus on the key materials that need to be reviewed.

A class that I am doing well in would be English Composition. The class does not necessarily focus on studying or have study methods, however, I am able to focus on improving my writing skills and having others peer review my work.

For my Sociology course, I tend to focus on reviewing the materials by reciting the information and making keynotes on what information is more important. The class does focus on studying and reviewing the material and being prepared to discuss it in class. I Should focus on putting more time into studying for this class, however, it is the class that I am doing decently well in.

For College Algebra, the class is similar to Chemistry where it focuses on reciting and memorizing formulas. I think that studying algebra also helps me prepare for chemistry due to the fact that it allows me to focus on the formulas and apply the formulas to certain questions. This class is actually a class that I am very stable in and do not worry too much about because it is all formula-based.

One of the classes that I am lacking in would be in Chemistry. I believe that one of the main reasons that I am lacking in this class would be due to all the memorization that Chemistry requires. I plan on taking advantage of study groups with fellow classmates and challenging myself with practice tests and quizzes to sharpen my test-taking skills. I would like to put more effort and time into studying Chemistry. I would like to study at least 1-2 hours every day during the weekday for specifically studying and reviewing Chemistry material. I think I should focus more on reviewing the formula-based material and the materials that require either conversions or calculations. This would not only benefit my math skills but also allow me to strengthen my chemistry skills.

I chose specifically to focus on Studying vs. Homework and finding ways to differentiate what studying is and what would be considered as homework. I think breaking down what materials are a priority and are considered as homework. Homework is based more on due dates and getting the assignment done by a certain time and studying is more self-starting based and using your resources around you.

I think I can work on breaking down the material for each class and figuring out what takes priority over other studying assignments. If certain classes do not need as much studying time then I can focus on directing the rest of my studying to a subject that needs more attention. I found that researching the academic tips also offered me a few different resources for self-care and stress management that can allow me to focus on balancing and not overloading myself with work.
