Parallel Plan!

If I were to change my major from a degree in Nursing, I would change my major to Speech and language pathology. Speech-Language Pathologists Assess and treat persons with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. The job may select alternative communication systems and teach their use and may perform research related to speech and language problems. This program is designed to provide graduates with the academic experiences needed to understand normal processes involved in speech, language, and hearing abilities, and to identify communication disorders. Classes also introduce students to clinical procedures for the assessment and treatment of communication disorders.

The program is a part of the College of Education and Professional Studies and would be considered to be a Bachelor of Science. The Advisor/Professor in charge of the program would be Anne Perrotti. A majority of my classes are able to transfer over for the major. I would additionally have to take an oral communications class, a different biology course for nonscience majors, and other electives throughout the semester. I could gain professional experience in this field by reaching out to the head of the department about the program and asking other peers in the program what I could do to prepare myself for the career ahead of me. I can also do extensive research into the field about what careers would suit me best. There are also professionals in this field that I can reach out to and I could ask to shadow their daily tasks as a Speech Pathologist.
