Transitioning from High School to College has been a very big change for me personally. I have been looking forward to becoming a more independent student and person. For the first semester of college, I am especially looking forward to making new friends through the living learning Community. I think the biggest challenge for me personally that will arise this semester would be time management and managing the amount of classwork I will be receiving from my classes. I have time commitments towards the LLC community and I plan on looking into the campus clubs that ODU has to offer. In High School, I participated in Varsity soccer and I was also a part of my school’s consort orchestra. I will be looking forward to expanding my horizons through the campus and the clubs that ODU has to offer me and my degree.
I plan on majoring in Nursing and I chose this major because I wanted to help those who are unable to help themselves. Not only is it a life fulfilling job, it offers others a chance to become inspired. I think that my background in working in the health industry and working closely with patients and those in the health professions industry allows me to learn the balance between the work life and interacting with patients. I have worked alongside a Physical Therapist that has taught me an immense amount of knowledge through patient care and working closely with customer support. I plan on receiving my degree in Nursing as a RN as well as the possibility of becoming either a Nurse Practitioner or also obtaining another degree through Physical Therapy.
I expect that the biggest difference between high school and college would be the time management and the idea that you have to seek help if you are struggling and that help will not be handed on a silver plate. I think that studying is focused on reviewing material and homework focuses on putting those new skills to use and applying the information that you just obtained into action. I plan on studying either in the study rooms, the Perry Library or my dorm room personally. I think electronics are a potential distraction for me and I plan on avoiding these through limiting the electronics in the room. The best time for me personally to study would be early in the afternoon to mid/late evening. I am able to focus on the assignments and also still allow myself to have time towards myself as well. I work best with physical studying materials rather than electronics. I can recall information much faster through physically highlighting or writing down a note for a text.
