Question: How does your major relate to cybersecurity technology? Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity.

We have made great technical advances in the previous seventy-five years. Similarly, even the most hopeful computer experts of the nineteenth century would be perplexed by the notion of a modern smartphone. However, the advancement of technology puts our security in peril. As technology advances and influences more and more aspects of daily life, one cannot help but question if privacy and technology can coexist. Because privacy, like technology, is highly essential, and it is critical that the two coexist. The technique of safeguarding computers, servers, mobile devices, electronic systems, networks, and data from hostile intrusions is known as cyber security. It’s often referred to as information technology security or electronic data security. Cyber security is critical because governments, military groups, corporations, financial institutions, and medical institutions acquire, analyze, and store massive quantities of data on computers and other devices. A considerable amount of such data may contain sensitive information, such as intellectual property, financial data, personal information, or other sorts of data whose unlawful access or disclosure might have negative effects. In the course of doing business, organizations send sensitive data over networks and to other devices, and cyber security refers to the discipline committed to securing that information and the systems that handle or store it. Cyber attacks such as phishing, malware, ransomware, spyware, and others highlight the importance of cybersecurity.

As a cybersecurity major, it is important to understand and learn how cybersecurity technology works, how these technologies protect our sensitive data, and how to manage risks and protect against cyberattacks. For efficient cyber security, an organization’s actions must be coordinated throughout its whole information system. ODU offers majors such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Administration, Computer Engineering, etc. that are related to cybersecurity since they focus on policy, forensics, identity management, network security, and incident response teams.
