Some of the ethical issues that arise when storing any electronic information are privacy issues, inappropriate use of data, security issues, and inaccurate information. If organizations abuse the ability to view individuals’ information, it can lead to a confidentiality and integrity issue. When we store things electronically, we often wonder who is viewing the information and what the person or people viewing the information could do with that information. Another thing we often ask is if whether where we are storing or sharing our information is secure or not, especially with medical and financial records. For example, saving credit cards after making a purchase online gives a chance for an attacker to obtain that credit card number and information to make purchases.

Compare cybersecurity risks in the US and another country.

The US is the number one target for cyber attacks. Cybersecurity in the US constantly tries to evolve as technology begins to become more advanced and learn new ways to limit the chances of another cyber event from occurring. One example of an advancement made was cloud storage. Files and documents can be saved into the cloud rather than a physical hard drive. This was an improvement to many of us because physical hard drives can get lost. With cloud services like OneDrive, Google Drive, or iCloud, we can access our files in any device with a login. However, that also meant that those files could be compromised if an attacker were to gain access. There was an incident years ago when someone hacked into celebrity iCloud accounts and leaked personal photos and videos. Overtime, these cloud services continued to evolve ways to make their services more secure for users such as multi-factor authentication. Files can be password protected. Another way to improve cybersecurity is to be more educated in cybersecurity, and this can help in organizations or in everyone’s daily life in general. It is beneficial to have multiple backups rather than just relying on one source to store files and keeping systems up-to-date.
