Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
Cultural perspective pervades every aspect of human life, from the mundane to the foreign. It is how people relate to one another and their ability to communicate. A few products that I could relate to were food, music, festivals and Holiday Customs. A few practices were values, etiquette, leadership styles and religious beliefs. It is important to explore culture so when you are working with people, it helps to have some perspective and understanding of their cultures. But as we explore different cultures it is also important to remember how much we have in common.
Engaging in Communities
Community engagement is a vital part of many projects. It allows you to understand more perspectives, gather new information and allows you to give your opinion. Thats important!
Interpersonal Communication
I participated in multiple class discussion boards this semester. They were important because it allowed me to open up and ask other students questions, and it helped us start conversations with one another.
Discussion boards gave time to reflect and synthesize information before writing. Also, these online conversations minimize the risk of someone dominating the conversation. With online conversations students can’t hide it’s either you say something or you don’t. Another positive about discussion boards is it gives the professor a chance to see what the students do and don’t understand. These discussion boards gave me the chance to excel, by giving me the opportunity to express my thoughts via and online portal.
Presentational Speaking
We participated in three interviews this semester. One face to face with another student, one with ourselves, and one with our professor. This gave me an insight of how I stand in the class. They were super beneficial if I struggled with having a conversation with someone.
Oral presentations can be informative, inspiring, visually appealing or even connecting. With that being said throughout our lives we will need to have presentation skills. The interviews I was apart of this semester helped me better understand what I need to do to better my skills. Presentations can be stressful and with these interviews it made me stress free when giving ideas.
Presentational Writing
Within this semester we have written many papers and letters. Presentational writing is a mode of communication in which students present, through written. communications, information, or concepts and ideas. Here is a example of presentational writing that I accomplished this semester.
Spanish-Interpretive Listening
The ability to listen to a text and interpret the meaning. Within a few test and quizzes I had to interpret what the reader was saying and answer questions about the given information. This was difficult at the beginning but towards the middle of the semester I began to catch on to what the reader was saying.
Interpretive Reading
Interpretive reading is the effective communication of thought or feelings of an author to a listener. Off of the top of my head I don’t remember doing an activity that included interpretive reading. However, I am sure we have had conversations in our breakout rooms were you could tell how the person was feeling whilst giving there answers.
