Interpretive

Music and speeches have played a big role in my interpretive listening for Spanish. It helped me to recognize my vocabulary structures and grammar.

Some interpretive listening activities I completed this semester include some videos assigned by the professor for our discussion boards, videos in our daily assignments in VHL, listening to Spanish music, and also some videos on the internet that helped me understand Spanish better. I have learned to pick up key words and gather important topics using the ambience of what I am hearing. Something that was challenging for me was actually understanding some of the words, but the more I listened, the better I understood. What I found most interesting was being able to listen and soak in the accents and understand it.

Interpretive reading has helped me identify details and make inferences in another language. Reading books has also helped to open my eyes to the standpoint of how other’s are.

Reading books in Spanish has definitely made me feel much more confident with my language skills. Reading Spanish has assisted my ability to remember and to help me recognize it later. This has also gave me plenty of time to reread multiple sentences until I understood them. Reading in another language can be tough, but the books I listed above helped me a lot. They had texts written at my level so it was much easier to understand, and they both included learning aids to help contribute to my comprehension. I would definitely say that grasping onto it when I started reading was challenging, but as I kept going I saw myself growing and getting better. A big accomplishment was acquiring exposure to plenty of words and phrases used in a natural manner.
