Exploring Culture
In SPAN 101F I learned about different traditions in different Spanish speaking countries. One example would be the siesta. Other things I have learned are how treating others with respect is very important in Spanish speaking countries and how schools are organized differently in other countries. This has broadened my perspective of the world because now I realize how good we really have it and that we should not take things that seem normal for us for granted.
Engaging in Communities
Engaging in your direct environment is very important. Mainly because it can benefit you and others. When you engage in your direct environment you make vital connections which can really benefit you later on. I have experienced this first hand and I strongly suggest to everyone to stay active in their communities.
Presentational Speaking
In span 101F I have done a total of two videos. In the first video I had a conversation with one of my classmates and in the second video I had to describe different areas of my university. I particularly liked doing the second video because it was very challenging. I feel like I could work some more on my pronunciation and my grammar, but in general I think that I did a pretty good job with both videos.
Presentational Writing
In span 101F I had to write multiple short letters. This was great to get to know the language and get an understanding of the importance of punctuation. Additionally, it really helped me improve my vocabulary and helped me understand when to use which words and sentences. Just like in the videos I feel like I can get better at my conjugations and focus more on the punctuation.
Interpretive Listening
In span 101F we did multiple listening and watching exercises. This was very helpful because it showed me how words and sentences should really be formed and pronounced. I sometimes did have trouble understanding what they were talking about. Mainly because it was all going so fast. However, I do believe that doing these kind of exercises are very beneficial to your Spanish capabilities.
Interpretive Reading
In span 101F we also did some reading. I did not always enjoy this the most, although I do realize that this is a very important activity to partake in. It gives you perfect examples of how stories should be told and how to provide proper context for your own work. Additionally, it shows us that you do not have to know every single word to understand what the main storyline is and that you get a lot from the context. These reading exercises have really benefited me. Also because, again, they showed me the correct grammar, punctuation and sentence forming.
