Healthcare Experience

This internship will allow me to accomplish a number of objectives. One of my primary objectives is to gain more clinical experience so that I can pursue my passion for patient interaction and health promotion. As a Medical Scribe, I will primarily assist physicians and other advanced clinical providers by transcribing medical care into electronic documentation. This opportunity is not only a tremendous learning experience, but I’m excited to partner with the physician to help improve the quality and delivery of healthcare services. Aside from gaining more experience in a medically related environment, I believe this job can help me understand more about health care and prepare me for a life-long career as a Health Service Administrator. This internship will help improve my understanding of basic medical terminology and practices by observing the facility’s daily operations. I believe that this position will allow me to learn more about working in the healthcare industry as well as the data that physicians must collect when working with patients.

Health Policy

I’m also interested in learning more about how healthcare policies such as HIPAA affect organizations and the delivery of care services. Health policy is something that I am very interested in because it plays such an important role in the healthcare delivery system in the United States. As a medical scribe, it is my responsibility to ensure regulatory compliance and HIPAA guidelines are being practiced while I’m documenting patient information. Furthermore, as a future health care administrator, understanding these policies is essential for developing guidelines, goals, and action plans that will aid in better managing how care and medicine are delivered, administered, and accessed. Throughout this internship, it is critical that I continue to educate myself about HIPAA and the policies that must be followed in order to ensure the privacy of patient records at MedStar Health Urgent Care. Because I’ll be working in telehealth, it’s important that I follow HIPAA regulations with my preceptor to ensure that patients’ medical information is kept private.

Professional Growth

I’m looking forward to all of the ways this internship will allow me to grow professionally. Being a medical scribe is a great way to gain new skills and work experience that can help me advance my career. This position will provide me with hands-on experience by requiring me to shadow administrative professionals, which will help me improve my workplace competencies and capabilities. This internship, in my opinion, is an excellent opportunity to network with others who are passionate about healthcare and eager to learn. This opportunity will allow me to sharpen my professional skills before beginning my career after graduation. It will also allow me to hone my current skills and grow in new and different ways, which will make me a better employee and even more successful as a future health service administrator.
