Assignment Takeaway
Assignment Takeaway 5 – 04.11
Our last assignment reflected on paying deeds forward and how we implement them in our daily lives. As recalled in my paper I am one of many front-line workers whose job and passion is to help those in need. Not only do I help people just because it is my job, but going that extra mile for someone is simply because I wanted to and truly cared for that person.
We are in the middle of a pandemic and many people are scared and not too sure what to do or who to believe when it comes to the proper information regarding the current situation. Many people come to us daily for advice on vaccinations because we are the doctors of drugs and vaccinations and train in this field daily. When I have people come up to be whether it be about if they should get a vaccine or how to get one, I never push them towards getting or not getting it, I just tell them what we know about it and how it could affect them and let them decide from there. When older people come in to sign up for appointments because they don’t know how to properly use a computer for it, I will always step aside and be with them every step of the way to make sure they can successfully get the appointment they wanted which they are always thankful because people normally will not stop what they are doing to help.
Going the extra to help someone may inconvenience you at that moment but for many people, you may have made their entire week. We don’t know the struggles or bumps people are facing daily with life and many other things so if we are able to step up and help someone with something may take 1 thing off their chest to no worry about. Regardless if it good or bad, karma always will come back to you eventually.

I chose this image because it shows a great example of being a front-line worker giving it my all daily both on and off the clock. Taking that extra step for someone could be an extra mile to them. That person may be so thrilled to know someone cared enough to help them that they may pay it forward to the next person and create a chain effect.
Assignment Takeaway 4 – 03.21
Assignment four covered the topic of the kinds of lovers we are and are not. ‘Eros’ is the love of physical and sensual intimacy between two lovers. Those who based their attraction mainly on looks and sexual desire versus attraction of the mind and personality. I am not the kind of lover who picks based on looks and sexual attraction. My significant other and I have to have a deep connection mentally first before physical attraction plays a role. The second type of love we went over is the love of ‘Ludus’. Ludus is the love of playfulness to see if and how a relationship will last between tainted connections. ‘Storge’ is the love of love and friendship. I and my lover share this well, we made sure we had a deep meaningful friendship before becoming a romantic relationship and it works well for us. I feel relationships that are based just on romantics and not friendships truly don’t last long and are not as meaningful. ‘Pragma’ is the love of rational calculations and love planning. I base my relationships heavily on my life goals and choices. I do not believe in slowing anyone to get in the way of my life goals and choices I have planned for myself. If I and my lover are not on the same page with it and can not come to a proper agreement then it was just not the right time for us. Second, to last talked about is the love of ‘agape’. Agape is the love of all-giving, non-demanding love. My partner and I have a very strong-giving relationship with very few demands. As mentioned in my paper I am most willing to give and help my lover in any way I possibly can but for small simple demands. I demand loyalty, respect, and honesty. Thing’s people should not have to ask for in relationships but unfortunately is not so common anymore. The last love we covered is the love of ‘mania’. Mania is a love based on the uncertainty of self and the lover. I am not one to show emotion much. I’ve had traumatic things happen in my life and did not create much emotion out of myself so I do not see myself showing too much if something were to happen between me and my lover.
Throughout this paper, I learned I do not follow my gender stereotype when it came to how strong we are to each connecting love. I can say I do see my results changing some as I get older and become wiser. I and my partner have not been together long so many things can change for us down the road.

While going through this assignment I tried to think of which lover I am the most without looking at statistics’ and I believed myself to be the lover of ‘Pragma’ the most. After looking at the final statistics that followed to be true. I have always been goal-driven and never allowed anything to get in the way of things I want to accomplish in life. I refuse to allow a relationship to begin to get in the way as well.

Assignment Takeaway 2 – 02.21
In chapter four we analyzed how we view ourselves in different roles we may fill in our lifetime. We often wish that people would view us in the same light we do which is called self-verification theory and method. People tend to change their tactics to change the way others feel about us. Self-esteem is a big thing that everyone deals with and many things can affect it. women who work in degrading occupations tend to have lower self-esteem than those who don’t. those who are often bullied when younger for something particular also tend to have self-esteem issues towards that same thing they were bullied for when they are older. Low self-esteem can lead to anxiety, depression, etc. depending on the issue at hand.
Our assignment had us reflect on our own self-portraits and who exactly we saw in those photos. While looking at the images I chose for this assignment I am often brought back to the memory of the time when they were taken, both good and bad memories. We see many pictures that at a glance we may not recall why they were taken until we look deeper and realize the true meanings behind them, which can become an eye-opener for many.

After learning the new information from this chapter, it has made me sit back and truly look at the way I carry myself around others and just myself. I work in retail so, having a positive outlook on everything is the biggest part of my job when it comes to customer service. Making sure I can give the same equal positive experience when they come in no matter how unpleasant the customer maybe is the hardest, but I love my job and always am happy to help regardless. Good customer service all around is what keeps existing customers and brings in new customers, and it always starts with how you present yourself to the company.
Assignment Takeaway 1 – 02.07
In assignment one, we went over 4 different types of heuristics that we use in our daily thinking processes. We use these heuristics to make our lives easier by shortcutting our thoughts when making decisions. When using Representativeness, we tend to base our decisions and judgments on grouping individuals based on looks, groups, etc. Status Quo is a strategy that is used that will most likely not have any change because in this type of heuristic change is unwanted. When talking about the Anchoring and Adjustment heuristic we tend to use the information that is already given as our anchor and adjusting as needed when new information is taken in. Lastly, we see and do things so often that we expect them to continue happening which is known as the availability heuristic. Although using these heuristics is supposed to help our brains from having an overload of information coming in, it could also lead to negative effects. Wrong decisions will be made from time to time, we just get back up and try again.
After reading about Heuristics and how we actively use them every day, I have come to realize I use the representativeness heuristic very often. the term representativeness is summed up by grouping someone in a particular category based on how they may look or act. Even when we’re not trying to, as humans we naturally categorize people regardless if it is in a positive or negative manner. Once new information is given to us, we have the capability to mentally move those people into a different mental category than what we had decided before.

I work in a retail pharmacy and of course my main job is just to fill the medication you bring in a prescription for, but also my job on the side is to make sure it is not being abused. We always have those select costumers who try to get their narcotics way before they are due and every time, we may be given a different reason as to why. In the pharmacy setting, you have the choice to either approve or deny that early fill and you have to use your better judgement, even if that judgement is based on how they represent themselves at that given moment. If the patient looks for the most part healthy and not in any serious pain, you may want to ask some open-ended questions to see why It is needed so bad. You can also look to see if they are claiming it to be for somewhere else on the body then what it was intended for or if their story changes often. Although the patient may feel targeted at the meantime, it is done for their safety due to narcotics being such an addiction. Medication should not be used for anything other than their intended purposes.
