ARTIFACT #5 – module 3
Similarity attracts well for many because they believe when it comes hanging out with their partners it creates easy choices that can be agreed between both parties. While recruiting people to complete the similarity leads survey many agreed they enjoyed those who were similar to their attractions because they can connect in a deeper meaning and leads them to believe they are more in a comfort state. Similarity is much like puzzle pieces to where you and your partner can connect in a deeper way then opposites may. When running a poll to see who agreed attracted more similarity finished at a 54% agreement, which was not surprising to finish with.

I personally am on the fence being which I agree with more, but I would have to say opposites do attract, it may not be the smoothest relationship but that is what makes it strong. I feel being too comfortable in a relationship is not a good one, every active healthy relationship requires different opinions and attractions towards things in life. When interviewing people about their reasoning behind preferring an opposite many agreed that opposites balance each other out and create a relationship full adventure. Those who are opposite in goals are good at pushing their significant other to be better both in life and in their personal goals. summary of the poll completed for this assignment had 46% of those who agreed to opposite attraction. I was not necessarily surprised in the poll being lower than similarity but I did expect them to even out percentage wise.

I feel as humans we naturally feel the need to preach that things should be done a certain way but also refuse to do things in that way either. We normally would like to believe our thought process is better then other but we deep down know that is not the case which is with there is nota balance between the attitude and behavior. Biggest example for young adults is texting and driving. We see others around us distracted driving and wonder why they are driving in a certain way to realize they are texting and driving. We get angry at that person for doing it when 9/10 times we are doing the same thing, just maybe not at that exact moment. We know it’s wrong and wish others did not do it but won’t stop the choice for ourselves. For myself, my biggest example towards cognitive dissonance is telling people how to handle their own financials and telling them how they’re handling them wrong. I personally am terrible at saving money and have a habit of eating out every day because I am never home to cook. A way I have tried balancing out this situation is to stop giving input on others’ financials when we are not in the same situations.

ARTIFACT #3 – module 6
Trait 1: SHY
Situation 1: One evening with my boyfriend’s group of friends they invited over a bunch of people I have never met before; I instantly became shy and wanted to get myself out of the situation as soon as possible. I tried to make myself become hidden so no one would be temped to ask me any questions. I feel when I am put into a situation that puts me in the spotlight, I normally try to steer the conversation away from myself quickly.
Trait 2: SENSITIVE
Situation 2: At work, a costumer blew up on me for something that was not in any under my control and due to her raising her voice and the verbiage used caused me to become really upset which led to me becoming frazzled and having to step out to calm myself down. This typically happens very often to me in my work setting which causes many stresses trying to calm myself down.
Trait 3: adventurous
Situation 3: Starting a new tradition of making my family visit a new city/state at least once a month so we can visit new places and experience new things together as a family. Traveling is so good in both a stress-free situation and getting to experience new places and possible more.
Trait 4: Responsible
Situation 4: Always making sure people at work were following proper safety protocols during the week for COVID-19 positive patients. We have to make sure we talk, handle, and manage each patient with the highest priority we can. We make sure we clean and sterilize our areas many times a day to keep both ourselves and our patients safe and healthy.
Trait 5: optimistic
Situation 5: When patients in the pharmacy run into a problem, I try to always find a solution for them so they are able to both get their medication but also for the cheapest price I am able to give to them. I know the people who come into the pharmacy daily have an issue of some sort medically and will not always be in the greatest mood, you have to keep an open mind and know they do not mean to act the way they may some days.
I feel my behavior was consistent with itself because the traits listed above are ones I noticed were mostly shown in a daily occurrence.

** This artifact made third in this series due to it being an eye opening project. We tend to be able to list traits about ourselves pretty easily but when it comes to actually sitting down and thinking back to a scenario for each instance then it opens your eyes to the kind of person you truly are. When I would think back to the times something happened to me to match these traits I would typically stop and think “wow, I really am like this around others”. sometimes I would try to deny these traits but i know that once looking at it, there’s no denying them.

Stereotypes have definitely changed over the years and I believe it is due to 2 main reasons: knowledge and media. As time progresses so does our knowledge and understanding of people. We can do our research and reach out to people to see how we truly view one another and get a personal opinion versus just decide to follow the majority of beliefs. Media plays a huge role in how we view things in the world, including races. Many believe if the media is portraying a particular race/ ethnicity to be majorly negative, a large group will follow suit without having a solid reason as to why. I can agree that the black stereotype is still extremely heavy and until people quit following the media and educate themselves and interact with actual people and make opinions for themselves, stereotypes will never change.

** This artifact came in a close second place due to matters that are also happening in America right now, I feel like stereotypes are being thrown all around for many people that truly just aren’t politically correct. we live in a society that is quit to put a title on an image without taking the time to truly understand that person or group. With us making those quick incorrect judgments towards people we set an unsettling image for ourselves also that we are quick in our thoughts and un-educated. I feel the way we went over the process of judging others based on skin color, grouping, etc. helps us keep an open mind to others that way we can change those negative stereotypes for different races and correctly have the correct thoughts on them.

Norm Violation Exercise (LO 8.1)
Working in both retail and healthcare you see hundreds of people every day both in the best of health and some not doing so well either. Since the pandemic has started we front line workers have been wearing masks non-stop until we are just about the home from our shifts. As a company, we are not allowed to refuse service or tell someone to wear a mask, but in turn, we can’t get close or go out and help them when asked unless one is put on which has caused issues with a lot of customers. People tend to not understand that it is not a personal choice of mine sometimes, but more of the company is always watching and I am just doing what I am told to do to keep myself afloat. Yes, wearing a mask has quickly become a “social norm” regardless if we like it or not. Even if things go back to normal and mask are no longer needed for daily activities many will still continue to wear them to feel safe.
I am not someone who fights wearing the mask, not because I feel it makes us safe and helps only because I have not done my own particular research behind it enough to follow strong evidence; but because it is the right thing to do to protect those who are truly sick and feel they need them the most. When I see people out and about without a mask regardless if I am out at work or doing weekly runarounds it is super frustrating because you never know what kind of illness you may be caring around someone who could be already ill from something else and you being careless could trigger it to become worse.
We all have our own opinions and none of them is more right than the other one but what does wear a mask when you’re in the general public hurt? Absolutely no one but yourself. On the contrary, wearing a mask continuously even when not needed has shown to weaken one’s immune system which does make you prone to a higher chance of illness.

** The reason behind this being my top choice for this semester because it is a subject so relatable for the time we are facing at his moment with the pandemic. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the matter and can be understood and respected but from a distance and need to understand that even with your own thought on the situation that others do have fears and just ask that others around them be kind and wear a mask. working in healthcare where the majority of our patients are sick and have weak immune systems and seeing others who don’t think about that just walk around with no masks on their faces or just not worn properly is frustrating because we are not allowed to do anything about it.
