Artifact 5

Module 6 was about how we might act in different situations and how consistent we are at those situations. I feel that I am very consistent in very few situations such as humorous and optimistic. However in other areas of my life I don’t think that I keep a consistent outlook and apply different parts of me to better fill in the situation. I’m not out going so to the people who don’t know me see me as a quiet young man who only does his work. This is only a basic outlook that doesn’t really show how I am.

I show consistency in areas that I’m comfortable in, those around me see me as a very different person than a stranger would see me as. Sometimes its easier to play a role than to do what I’d like to.

Module 7 was about our attitudes and how we change either our behavior to match our attitude or the other way around to achieve more balance.   Cognitive dissonance is the main reason we strive to achieve balance in our behavior and  attitude.  Either we change our thinking to match the action or we either stop or start taking action to match our beliefs.

We balance our attitude and behavior. In some instances we change what actions we take to go along with our beliefs. While other times we change what we believe to make our actions feel correct.

In module 4 it talks about how we skew our vision by the availability heuristic. I think that people being able to use the total number of something going up is reflective about how in the society and the actual rates are increasing. Even if the reported events are going up in a numerical sense we might not experience a percentage change as the total population is also increasing and may be increasing more than what was being measured.

This may come from more people being accepting of a new form of entertainment media, or it could be that more people are being exposed to the media and therefore the numbers are inflating themselves.

Module 8 looked at stereotypes and how they change over time. While the words used to describe something will always change over time as more slang and words are used differently will occur the exact definition generally doesn’t change. However the qualities that we generally attribute to the races with stereotypes stays consistent in that they keep the negative annotations but generally have different terms applied to them. The stereotypes are becoming less harshly negative and are slowly becoming more acceptable traits this might be as more races are mixing and sharing qualities that are widely accepted among each other.

Everyone holds their own believes but most people can agree about very basic concepts. The longer we are exposed to something the more likely we are to accept it and the things that might have been more negative are seen as less so.

I really enjoyed taking both sides on module 3 “Opposites Attract” and “Similarity leads to attraction”. It showed that just because having something that you don’t always get to experience may be cool and inviting; However, familiarity was better at keeping people together. Initial discovery is fun but unless you have things in common you’re going to drift apart.

Doing something new and exciting brings about a rush of emotions, but those feelings can stay with the action and not the person. The best way to keep connected to someone is to keep some things similar.
