Celebrities do not Influence Beauty Standards. It’s actually other elements that influence Beauty Standards that even the celebrities themselves are subjected to (Defino). Two of these elements include colonialism and capitalism (Defino). Colonialism for centuries has produced the eurocentric beauty standards that we know very well today on women across the globe (Defino). Colonialism came with the ideology that whiteness is ideal and anything close to it is better than the darker colors (Defino). Not only has colonialism played a role in shaping and influencing the beauty standards, but so has capitalism(Defino). Capitalism has marketed to the masses beauty products to fit the trending beauty standards that are upheld in society (Defino). Capitalism has exploited people’s insecurities just to make a buck out of them further pushing beauty standards (Defino). Whatever is in trend for beauty standards, capitalism makes sure it makes products of that to influence the masses to adhere to beauty standards by monetary means (Defino).
