From the beginning of the semester to now, I have grown a lot as a person. I now know what is good for me and what is not, and when it is not good I try to stay away from it. For example, making time to study rather than procrastinating and spending time with my friends, because at the beginning of the semester I would not do a lot of studying and hang out with my friends a lot, and I soon realize that it is not good and it is not doing me any good. Which I now have changed and focus on my studying more. My expectation for this year was that the year was definitely going to be hard, and it was hard. From midterms to now finals week, everyone including me is cramming everything in trying to understand everything. Something that I wished I knew fourteen weeks ago is to go to a chemistry tutor because at the beginning of the semester I did not know about them. My grade was not the best, but now that I know they helped me understand Chemistry a lot better and my grades now are better than it was in the beginning.
My time of studying also changed from the beginning of the year to now. At the beginning of the year, I would spend a lot of time working on my homework and didn’t have that much time to study. Which I soon realized was not a good idea because it did not help me when it came to taking quizzes and exams. But now I have changed that and spent three to four hours studying, which helped improve my grade a lot. My study habits also changed a lot too. For example, At the beginning of the semester, I like to cram everything and do everything in one day. But now, I have learned that it is not a good idea to cram everything in one day because I would get burned out easily. So now, what I do is to plan things to spread out rather than cramming them in one day. The resources that I have used throughout the semester are the writing center and the chemistry success center. These two resources helped a lot because I can come to them any time that they are available to get help, and I will definitely be going to them again next semester. One study technique that I will be using again next semester is the Pomodoro method, which is when I stay focused and work for 25 minutes without any distraction, and then have a break for 5 minutes. This helped me a lot because it helped me not to get distracted by my phone, and in the end, if I stay focused, I know that I will get a prize which is my 5-minute break. But another study technique is to go to a quiet place to study because it helps me concentrate more.
During this semester in my History, Sociology, and Chemistry class, there was definitely a connection between the content, and one of the content is social justice. In History, Professor White talks about how social justice has impacted history and how people work together to deserve social justice. For Sociology, Professor Lopez took us to the Chrysler Museum and he showed us how social justice had impacted the artist to be able to put those meanings into their arts. Lastly, in Chemistry class Professor McCoy teaches us about social justice in Flint Michigan and the people are not getting the clean water that they deserve. All of these tie together and taught me a lot more about social justice. Also, during this semester there were events that allowed me to hear from health professionals and I think that the event with Dr. Jamela Martin is the most beneficial for me as a student, because it allows me to understand how the environment that I live in and how it affects my health. But also I could use that understanding to relate to people around me.
