Before this presentation I had not previously took focus to ads that distort or dehumanize women. It definitely occurs more often than I ever imagined it would. This video brought a new understanding to just how widespread this occurrence is and the effect it has on societal views and stereotypes of women.

I was very pleased with my results of the first exam. I do feel my study habits leading up to it were effective and I do plan on repeating the same for the next exam. I remember learning that recalling information is best done when the information is learned across multiple days rather than cramming. So I made sure that the week leading up the the exam I spaced out time each day to study and go over necessary material. Any material I did not quite grasp I would add on to the following day of studying to go over that information. This was extremely useful when it came to recalling the information on the test.
To best organize my schedule with school and studying, I use a calendar like this one to plan out my time so that I do not forget anything.

I thought the article Soul Meets Body to be very interesting. Like stated in the article, I assumed that similar music taste meant similar personality traits. I did not consider that this connection may actually be similarities in values, though I think that is very important. I have noticed similarities between friends, or romantic partners’ music tastes with mine. And I would say in most cases this coincides with their values as well. On the flip side, now that it is being considered, I have also noticed that those with majorly different music tastes than mine, also tend to have drastically different values. Not that there is anything wrong with having different values, it is just interesting to consider.

When it comes to the type of student I am, I would say it is dependent on the subject matter. I have a tendency to be a great student in areas that I am interested, while I sometimes slack in areas that I don’t care about. As each semester passes and I have been able to narrow down to major-specific courses, my confidence levels as a student have definitely grown. High school, and even the first half of college, I would find myself struggling to maintain focus in courses that I had no interest in. This left me feeling like I was not intelligent, when in reality I just needed the ability to target my education on my specific interests. Now that I am at a point where most of my classes are major-specific and I got to pick them myself, I have found that my capabilities as a student has grown, along with my confidence as well. To increase my confidence level I just needed more control over my realm as a student, which college has allowed me to do.
I scored a 31 out of 40 on the Self-efficacy evaluation. I feel like it is a pretty decent scoring as far as my confidence in my abilities as a student goes. It definitely fits my task accomplishments, as I am doing well but there is definitely room for improvement. I do have some confidence in being able to problem-solve, though just like when it comes to my education, I do know I can sometimes lack in problem solving abilities within areas I am not interested in.

The objectives in this course will allow for deep understanding of human interactions and behavior. Being able to learn how people perceive others as well as why individuals form the relationships they do, can be really useful in the field of criminal justice. Knowing how attitudes are formed and how they relate to behavior, how the formation of close relationships occur, as well as further understanding topics like prejudice and discrimination are all extremely important in not just the world of criminal justice that I want to be in, but in the world as a whole. The better we can understand relationships and perceptions, the better we can hold relationships and be able to analyze the relationships of others as well.
In this course I look forward to better grasping why people make the social choices they do. Why people form relationships with certain people, why discrimination occurs, why people contain the attitudes they do. All of this knowledge can be so useful in understanding humans as a whole, and on a personal level, help further my understanding of human behavior as it could pertain to criminal justice.
To ensure my success in this course I intend to get the most out of each assignment. I want to use this site to reflect on knowledge gained so I can better retain it and use it in the future. I think this site will be a crucial way for me to stay on track and build upon things as I learn them in this course.
