Exploring Culture

The culture-based assignments in LingroLearning are my favorite to do because I love learning about the lifestyle and traditions of other countries. TalkAbroad also provides a first-hand account of the culture of other countries. Overall, exploring cultures is important to fully understand the language.

Engaging in Communities

Engaging in your community is important because it allows you to connect with those around you. Having people with similar interests and opinions is beneficial to creating lasting friendships and feeling included. The main way I have engaged with the Spanish community is through TalkAbroad.

Interpersonal Communication

The interpersonal communication that I participated in this year was from TalkAbroad. I had two conversations this semester. My first partner was Maribel Duarte from Nicaragua. I feel like this conversation went really well. My second conversation was with Margarita Atuesta. I could have been more prepared for the conversation but I feel good about it overall.

Presentational Speaking

In Spanish 201 I completed two presentational speaking projects. I enjoyed creating these videos for units 12 and 16 because they added a layer of creativity to what I learned in class. Unit 12 was my favorite project because I liked the topic of ecotourism. Unit 16 was also a fun project because I got to work with another student. Collaborative work is something I have become much more comfortable with through Spanish classes.

Presentational Writing

The two presentational writing projects from this semester are a style guide from unit 11 and a story ending for unit 13. I feel most comfortable writing in Spanish. I feel like the unit 11 style guide demonstrates my writing ability well and my organizational skills with projects.

Interpretive Listening

Most of the interpretive listening from this class was through LingroLearning and in-class listening. Previously interpretive listening has been something I have struggled with but after this semester I feel like I have made a big improvement.

Interpretive Reading

The interpretive reading that I have done in this course has been through LingroLearning. Unit 13 and Unit 15 had stories that we had to interpret to understand the activities. I feel like my reading comprehension in Spanish has improved after completing both units.
