Mid Semester Reflection

Study Habits

I spend at least three hours a day studying. Usually, I take my notes at home, rather than take it in class. My grades do reflect on how much I study. This is due to the fact that I try to study. I usually study in my dorm or the U-Center in the Webb Center. The U-center is very useful because I am usually surrounded by people who are taking or have taken similar classes. However, it can be distracting due to all of my friends being in the U-Center and it gives me the urge to socialize. I am usually more focused in the early afternoon because that is usually the time I don’t have any classes, so it gives me the opportunity to review my material.

Learning style

A new study method I have tried is color coding my notes. It makes everything more presentable and causes me to be more motivated to look at my notes. It is also more efficient since it makes my notes look more organized. I think note-taking is the most efficient way for me to learn the material. This is mostly because I have a habit of looking through my notebooks. However, I do have to change my style when I am in a different class. For example, I have to change my style from Cornell notes to three-column notes when I am in math class because of the way it is taught.

Transition to college

I originally expected my first semester to be harder. Maybe it is due to the IB classes I took and their rigor prepared me for college, but I expected my classes to be more rigorous in college. I also did not expect the number of resources I have when I am in college. Although I haven’t used most of them yet, it surprises me the use they have. I think my toughest challenge is still to socialize and speak. I have joined organizations and they made me socialize more, but I think I can do better.

Connecting to campus I have a problem with my credits. I took an IB class and I feel like I should get more credit. I can utilize the office of admissions and my advisor. However, this may be a long process. My friends in FASA are very supportive. They have helped me adjust to campus life and make more friends. I attended the interest meeting for Pre-Health and FASA. I got involved with Pre-Health to get me towards medical school and I joined FASA to get in touch with my Filipino culture.
