Cyber technology has created many opportunities for workplace deviance. First we can look at what cyber technology consists of, which is computer programs, viruses, hacking, etc. All of these things that have been listed have the capability of retrieving private information and doing harm. With all of this being said, there can definitely be some corruption in the workplace if the employee was up to no good or mad about something and looking to start problems. Workplace deviance regarding cyber technology isn’t limited to employees either, people in higher up positions could also be using cyber technology for things other than work. The problem with workplace deviance is that there won’t be extensive hacking to access some private information. Since you are probably already on your workplace computer you already might have access to information, servers, etc. So, maybe it might be smart to ensure extra safety with who you hire and give passwords to and even put up extra security measures.
First example, an employee gets in trouble for being late to work. The employee didn’t like getting in trouble by her boss so she installed a virus onto her work computer so she didn’t have to work. Deviance is something that shouldn’t be shown in the workplace because if one person does something when they get in trouble at work, then other people will probably start doing the same. There are many different examples of cyber technology techniques that could show some sort of deviance in certain situations. It doesn’t always have to be an employee that does something defiant. For example, the boss gets mad at an employee for not getting the work done by the end of the week, the employee threatens the boss and he fires her. Instead of the boss letting go of the situation, he logs into the work computer with the employees information and finds her personal information to leak.
