There are multiple ways that engineers can make cyber networks safer including, Firewalls, VPN, update passwords frequently, monitor networks, etc. One thing that needs to stay consistent when regarding engineers making cyber networks safer is monitor networks, there always needs to be a team looking for inconsistencies in a network and reporting those inconsistencies so that engineers can get ahead of cyber attacks. Next, firewalls are big in protecting cyber networks by blocking malware and other threats. Without a firewall, a system is very susceptible to threats and may not last very long. VPN’s are also one of the ways to block threats from entering or stealing information. A VPN is otherwise known as a Virtual Private Network and provides an encrypted connection from a device to a network. Data can be safely transmitted and nobody should be able to spy on that connection and steal the data. Updating passwords frequently is pretty self explanatory, the key point to make is that the passwords need to be something very unique. The password should consist of a randomized series of words, characters and numbers and the password should also be a good length which would make it harder for people to guess the password.
The overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime is the fact that cybercrime consists of someone committing a crime that is over the internet using a computer. Criminal justice involves law enforcement and if someone breaks a crime then they will be arrested. The fact is that someone will commit a cybercrime, for example, hacking into a government database. Something like this would result in serious consequences and eventually law enforcement (criminal justice) would be met at a person’s door and placing them under arrest. A person involved with this type of cybercrime could be faced with 5 to 20 years in prison and could potentially face serious fines. Hackers may try to hide there location, but there will always be someone better and they most likely work for law enforcement.
