– CYSE 406 –
The course covers legal concerns affecting citizens and private entities, such as cybersecurity, freedom of expression, internet regulations, information-gathering, privacy, and intellectual property. It also examines the legal authorities and limits imposed on U.S. government organizations involved in cyber investigations, including domestic law enforcement and international cyber operations. This course meets the NSA’s legal requirements for a Center for Cybersecurity Excellence in Operations designation, which ODU now holds.
In CYSE 406, I engaged in detailed analysis and strategic planning within the realm of cybersecurity policy, focusing on issues that impact both national and organizational levels. This course allowed me to delve into legal concerns affecting cybersecurity, including privacy, information gathering, and internet regulation. Through the examination of real-world policies, such as those surrounding data privacy and internet governance, I gained an understanding of the challenges and complexities in balancing security, privacy, and legal considerations.
A significant portion of the course was dedicated to completing two major writing assignments, which required me to analyze and address cybersecurity issues within hypothetical governmental contexts. These assignments equipped me with a structured approach to critically evaluate policy decisions and their implications for security governance and compliance.
